"You always look for the win first and foremost, but to win in the way we did is very pleasing. It was a good win and I'm a happy man. We entertained the crowd and I think they enjoyed it, and if it wasn't for their goalkeeper I certainly feel there could have been more goals. ''I thought Ian (Crainey) had a big effect. He moved the ball very quickly and his ability to know his next pass speeds up our football.
"It's hard to say why it clicked but I certainly thought Kevin Austin kept their forward quiet and that was a good solid platform. But to be honest, this was probably the best we've played from start to finish this season. We've played like that in patches throughout the season, but over the entire 90 minutes that was probably the best we've played.
"We're back in the top six and that's where we want to be and where we want to stay. We passed the ball well and always looked capable of scoring. I'm not really sure why it clicked so well but if I could bottle it and recapture it another day I would because when we play like that we are capable of beating most sides, and I'd be a very successful manager.
"We have also extended Marcos Painter's loan spell. Whether it will go beyond a second month I don't know at this stage. Birmingham manager Steve Bruce wants to see how his side comes through the busy Christmas and New Year period first with regards to injuries. Marcos had another good game against Carlisle and for a 20-year-old he is proving to be a very good player.''
