Craig Curran Talks About The Game

Blues frontman Craig Curran
United striker Craig Curran (CC) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's 0-0 draw at home to Brighton, Curran first talking about his extremely low body fat percentage :

JP

Your body fat percentage, Greg Abbott and Andy Hall at Carlisle United keep telling us about it, what is it?

CC

5.8% or something like that, something around that area anyway.

JP

I have got a friend who is a personal trainer and runner, and his is twice that, how on earth do you get a level like that?

CC

I don't know really, just looking after myself properly. I don't really drink, I eat the right foods, working hard, just bits like that really.

JP

A lesson perhaps for some young kids who fancy a career in football, but perhaps don't quite know how much work goes into it?

CC

I just want to give myself the best chance I can on and off the pitch, and that is the way I think I should do it. So, that is what I do really.

JP

What do you make of what happened on the pitch today then? Do you think a point was about fair between both sides?

CC

Well, you look at the first-half and you think a point is not fair, we definitely should have been a few up maybe but, it didn't happen. In the second-half we didn't come out and perform as good, so you take the point then. I think it is important that we kill the games off early and then go on and get two and three and four.

JP

What has the manager (Greg Abbott) been saying to you at half-time and at full-time in particular today?

CC

After the first-half he wanted more of it in the second-half, and unfortunately we didn't do that. We gave Brighton the chance to get back in the game a bit but, we worked hard and we ground out a result. I think it is important that we don't get beat, we add points to the board and hopefully it will come in handy at the end of the season.

JP

No doubt that Carlisle were the better side, you just look at my sheet that I have got here and I have been writing down the chances, you can see that Carlisle had much more of it. Brighton did in the second-half, I suppose in a way you just sometimes have to give credit to a visiting team, they did a better job in the second-half?

CC

Yeah, they did in the second-half, we have got to admit that we weren't as lively as we were in the first-half. But, that is when we need to kill the game off and maybe put the ball in the back of the net and then we can get our second goal and third goal and start to enjoy the game a bit more. But, it never happened and we had to roll up our sleeves and grind out a result, and to be fair we did that in the end.

JP

You got your first competitive goal of course last week, that famous win at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday. Today the closest you came was a diving header in that second-half and it wasn't that far away, and then (Casper) Ankergren split it, it still could have happened but, just inches, I guess that is all it takes in football?

CC

Yeah, it just went a bit past me but, I keep going and keep working hard and getting in there and I will get my chances.

JP

Of course that was a trip that all of the Carlisle fans who made it all the way down really enjoyed thanks to your goal. A slightly longer one this time, you have already seen one with the Plymouth trip, now off to Bournemouth, I guess you have to get used to this when you sign for a club like Carlisle?

CC

Yeah, it is part and parcel of football, everyone has to travel, although we do have to travel a bit further. But, that won't take us away from our game and what we have got to do, and we will all be ready, I am sure of that.

JP

And finally, another new man into the squad this week, Oliver Norwood, how has he slotted in and settled with what I guess is quite a few new faces in the squad?

CC

Good, he is a nice lad and he is a good player. He brings quality to the game, so excited to work with him, I am sure he will do well here.
