Danny Livesey Talks About The Game

Last updated : 24 March 2012 By Thetashkentterror

Danny Livesey3United centre-half Danny Livesey (DL) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) following Carlisle's 1-1 League One draw away to Colchester, Livesey saying it is another game ticked off in sixth place :

JP

What did you make of that today? A really tough game but I am sure you are all delighted with the result?

DL

Yeah, we have gone in there and it is another game ticked off and we are still in the play-offs because the results have gone for us. It was a battle today but we didn't expect anything different, we know they like to go really direct and I thought we dealt with it brilliant to be fair. There wasn't much between us, they have got a well worked goal, we have got a well worked goal and then that is it in the whole of the game.

JP

A really hard battle between two sides who clearly didn't want to get beaten, just two moments of quality, real quality, from both sides, both really good goals actually, just rather than a 30-yard top corner job just really neat passing ones?

DL

Yeah, you expect that it would be off a flick-on or they would go direct and it would be a knock-down and stuff, but it wasn't, it was a very good goal for them. Then it is almost a carbon copy of the one that we have gone and scored, it is a great finish from Bez (James Berrett), his composure was unbelievable. Sometimes you panic at them when you are in all sorts of different minds about where you are going to put it, but he has tucked it away great.

JP

Lee Miller flicking it on for him as well, ten assists now, top assister and top scorer as well, how key do you think his signing has been for Carlisle this year?

DL

Yeah, he has been unbelievable hasn't he, hopefully we can keep hold of him but he should be getting the goals and he should be getting the assists, that is why he is up there. He is unbelievable, you don't need me to say how good he is, everyone can see how good he is.

JP

You are back in the team and have had a bit of a run in there now, what does it feel like personally because nobody would expect that you enjoy not being in the team but to have this run-out now does that just make you more determined to hang on to your spot?

DL

Yeah, of course it does, I mean there were times when I was coming in, doing well, and then I was back out again. That is the frustrating thing so I make sure that now when I am in I am just going to take my chance, I feel like I am doing that at the minute, I feel like I am playing reasonably well and I have got a bit of confidence again. Hopefully I can stay in the team for the final run-in because these are the games I want to be involved in.

JP

The fans clearly respond to the way that you, and alongside you, Peter (Murphy) are sort of rolling back the years a little bit in terms of the partnership. But, you in particular throw yourself on the line to get in front of things, is that just something that you feel that you have always done, or do you just think that more players all over the game, not just with Carlisle, but with other teams ought to throw themselves on the line for their team that they love?

DL

No, I just think it is my game. Do you know like other people have different strengths, that has always been my strength, it has never been an issue, I would rather........... I will get in the way all day, I can't bring the ball out from the back, it is improving but I will never be one of those like a Murph who will come out. I have got to do the ugly side, I know what my game is and I have got to play to my strengths.

JP

Looking ahead, a couple of very exciting games, should be great at Brunton Park for Huddersfield, but to tee that up a very interesting looking match at MK Dons. How excited are you all about that one?

DL

Yeah, we were just saying before, it is always a good game when we go down there. I have been involved in a 4-3 and stuff like that, so we know it is going to be tough because they play really well at home and it comes on the back of two long trips. But, we are excited at this stage of the season, you are running on adrenaline, you need to carry on picking results up, you look at where you are after each game and it is an exciting time to be playing.

JP

We maybe expected a bit more aerial stuff from Colchester than we got today in terms of the way they attacked you with (Kayode) Odejayi only coming on fairly late on. You are probably expecting it all to be neat and on the floor and intricate and very difficult to handle on Tuesday?

DL

Yeah, it will be completely different won't it I know. The last ten minutes they went really direct and I thought we handled it really well. I am expecting Tuesday that they like to get it down, but so do we, you have seen against Preston and in glimpses today, I mean today was more of a battle but you did see in glimpses that we are going to get it down and we are going to play, and that is the way the gaffer (Greg Abbott) wants us to play. It should be a really good football match.

JP

It could be like a basketball match with the way the two teams are known for liking to attack, it could be a great spectacle but probably quite nervy for you lot at the back?

DL

I was going to say, I hope it is not a basketball score, but it should be a great game like I say.

JP

As long as you edge it, it doesn't matter what score it is does it?

DL

Well, yeah, that is true, that is very true, at this stage of the season it doesn't matter does it.
