"Ryan is the best finisher at the club in practice, it's just a question of whether we can get that out of him in the games. We told him before the game that we didn't want him taking people on and trying to go past them, but we wanted him to be getting himself into the box. That's what he did. His second goal was a great piece of skill, but also a fantastic ball from Billy Jones in the build up.
"After Tuesday night the Chairman asked me, in the nicest possible way, why we were playing long balls forward and wouldn't we be better playing balls into the forwards' feet. Well I'm not sure about that because I think we need to be playing better long balls for our forwards because we have pace up there with Nicky (Maynard) and Luke (Varney).
"That ball from Billy was the perfect ball and resulted in an exceptional goal. Billy also did a terrific job on Karl Hawley. I've not seen him play before, but he was definitely their danger man and Billy marked him really well until he eventually he went off injured.
"It's (4-3-3) an exciting way to play and I think it's something we can do at home. Whether we can do it against Manchester United is another matter however. But I thought our three in midfield outplayed Carlisle's three in the end and that was perhaps the key to it."
