David Allen - Radio Cumbria Interview

United chief executive David Allen spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday as he talked about the ongoing Joe Garner transfer situation, Allen also commenting on how season ticket sales are progressing :

" If a bid of £1,140,000 came in we wouldn't prevent Joe talking to other clubs, what happens to that is that the first £140,000 comes to the club to repay what we paid to Blackburn. The £1 million gets split, £500,000 to Blackburn, £50,000 to Joe and £450,000 to Carlisle United. Joe is a class player and he was on his way to Dundee United at the time. Eric (Kinder) stepped in and persuaded him to come and talk to Carlisle United. Because of the deal that was already done with Dundee United, we had to match that clause.

" We would have never disclosed that, because obviously it is like playing cards, when you disclose your hand you are at a disadvantage. So we wouldn't have disclosed that but obviously it came out from another party. We've been saying all the time, we have kept as quiet as we can about it because we desperately want to keep him. We are going to do everything we can to keep him, obviously negotiations are quite far down the line now but we are just going to do all our best to keep him, that's all that we want to say.

" The money will be reinvested in players, the good thing about the sale of any players at the club, the money that we get at Carlisle United comes back into the club to be reinvested in the playing squad. What I would point out though is that all that money wouldn't come upfront, these contracts, the money comes over a little bit of time, but it will go back into the playing squad.

" It's worth mentioning as well that John Ward has got the transfer fund that he needs now to get the players that he needs before we start. So that is already in place regardless of anything that would happen with Joe. We've already had £250,000 from the Keiren (Westwood) deal but we won't get another £250,000 for another year's time. That's there for next season so we're looking forward.

" For transfers in, when we are in negotiations with other clubs we just want to keep it quiet, we're hopeful of getting a couple in before the season starts. We'll see him (Tyrone Cameron) at Chester, we're excited about him. He is another example, nothing has been said, but John Ward has been looking at him for a little while. He has been away with Glenn Hoddle training so we couldn't get at him, now we have got at him he is up here for a week, and what people are saying is that he has got potential.

" The last time I looked, last week, they were up 4% on the year before, so season tickets are going fine. We've publically said that we will try to improve on last season and that is what we are aiming to do. We have got a lot to do, it's a big step, particularly in terms of players wages and a little bit of expenditure on the infrastructure. We are doing a lot to encourage sponsorship, we want everybody to get behind the club and make it work. "
