David Raven
United right-back David Raven spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Thursday morning at the United press conference, Raven talking about making his first appearance in three weeks in the 2-1 win at Crewe on Tuesday night :

" Crewe was all about the result but it was nice to play again and the result went hand in hand with it. I spoke to the gaffer (Greg Abbott) and he mentioned that somebody would be coming in at right-back. He is a good player is Tony (Kane) and as it happened I was a little bit surprised that he (Abbott) chopped and changed it.

" I thought that he (Kane) did alright in the games, he did quite well and I was surprised that he changed it, but obviously for my benefit he did. I am ready to scrap and fight and I am sure that Tony is as well. I have always had competition until this season really so it is nothing new, and I am sure that Tony has always had competition, it is healthy.

" There have been good performances by the team this year that haven't got us the points that they deserved. When we came in after the Crewe game we thought that we fully deserved it, we played by far the better football and we were all chuffed.

" Yeovil and Leyton Orient are massive games, they are the teams that are around us at the moment and we need to beat them, keep them below us and hopefully get a bit of space between us. Sometimes I do look at the league table, I didn't so much last year when we were up there because I didn't want to jinx it, but this year I have, why that is I don't know. I do look to getting more points between us and the bottom four obviously. "

" It would be nice not to have any pressure at the end of the season because it has been a topsy-turvy sort of year. It would be nice for the lads to just relax and play good football towards the end of the season, it would be nice for the fans as well to relax as well because I know that they feel it just as much, if not more sometimes.

" I suppose all the things that have been going on have affected the players, I think that we have just not been consistent this season for whatever reason. We have some cracking results going, going away to Leeds for instance and then we have had some absolutely appalling results and we lost ten on the spin or something like that. So you just can't put your finger on it and it has just been one of those seasons, topsy-turvy, very strange.

" Kav (Graham Kavanagh) has helped us with his experience and Gareth (Taylor) has come in and done well. I think that with their experience they set their own standards and everyone lives up to that. You have got to play up to that so they are definitely good for us, even the likes of Thirs (Paul Thirlwell), he is 30 now and he sets his standards and sets everyone else's standards, so there is a bit of experience in there now.

" I am just looking forward to the next game now and it was nice to be playing again. It took longer than I thought actually to get over the knocks that I had, I think that it took me the good couple of weeks that I had out to actually get over them. Because obviously if you are constantly playing then you are constantly knocking them again, I feel fresh again now so I am looking forward to it. I'd love to get on the scoresheet again, I had a wild swipe on Tuesday with my left foot and it nearly went out for a throw-in I think. "
