Shots boss Dean Holdsworth spoke to BBC Radio Surrey and his club's official website after his side's 2-0 Carling Cup second round victory over Carlisle, Holdsworth saying football has a funny way of equalling itself out :
"It's a tremendous result, I don't think it is the best performance we've had, and we've been better and lost, so football has a funny way of equalling itself out. But, we'll take the result, we'll take a clean sheet and we'll take a goal from Michael Rankine who's earnt it, and we'll take the confidence and hopefully push on now in the league form and really get the benefits of what I think will be a good squad here. But, I’m delighted and everyone in Aldershot should be delighted but it still might take me a little bit longer because I still feel that we can get better.
"There is still loads more to come from Michael and I was delighted because that is Michael Rankine at his best, out of his feet, sticking it in the back of the net. He has got lots more to work on, he is still raw but we know he is raw, he wins his headers and he is a handful for centre-halves. So, that gave me a lot of pleasure because I brought Michael here, I think more importantly that we can play a little but below par than we normally do, or plan B, and keep a clean sheet, so we might have to change our strategy a little bit.
"It was a fantastic time to score the opening goal, there is never a bad one but that was a good time for them, just a little bit of a knockback for them. I said to my players at half-time that good teams come out and put pressure on, they don't wait for pressure, they put their own pressure on. I think we closed them down well, we stuck to a system and we were playing against a League One side, top six, and I was looking to see what the difference was, and I will watch it again and see what the differences are. But, I have got a lot of respect for my players and I thought we handled the oppostition very well tonight and I don’t really remember them having or taking a chance.
"Ross Worner is a good goalkeeper, sometimes there are question marks over the manager when you have got a small budget as to why you bring in a quality number two, well that was why tonight, why we have got that. He has got the experience and he handled it very, very well, and I was delighted that he didn't have very much to do as well."
