Dennis Booth
United assistant manager Dennis Booth spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips on Friday evening ahead of Carlisle's League One match at home to Southampton tomorrow, Booth hoping that a good atmosphere at Brunton Park for the 100 years celebrations can spur the players on to victory :

" It will be a very tough game tomorrow, it will be a fabulous day for the supporters but we want to make it a fabulous day by getting the three points. We were going very well and then the last couple of games we have come a little bit unstuck in the league and it has been very disappointing for us. So we have got to get back on track as soon as we can and a good game against Southampton that I wouldn't think the fans have seen for a long while up in Carlisle.

" With the old players coming back there will be a big crowd there and a good atmosphere. We have got to make sure that we can carry that through right to the end of the game and make everybody's day a wonderful day. But from our point of view it is three points that we are after and if we get that then everyone will have been happy with the day.

" The Brighton game and the Oldham game we were disappointed with but the other night we played reasonably well but we still lost the match which we were disappointed in. I know the fans probably enjoyed seeing some of the top flight players and you could see the difference at times with the quality that they had, the pace of Premier League players.

" We got off to a fantastic start which obviously everyone thought then that this could be the night, but it wasn't to be. But we still created chances and overall I thought from a neutral's point of view it was probably a very good football match. We have had a lot of people saying well done and that we played some good stuff but from our point of view we still lost the game. We are in the results business and we don't like losing football matches so tomorrow is a big chance for us to get back on track and we are hopefully going to take it.

" We contested well and we finished the game well, I think that Dobes (Scott Dobie) hit the post near the end, if that goes in then who knows, we could have got back in it. But they were poor goals we conceded, we were disappointed in that respect but overall we probably played decent but we still lost and that is the thing for us. We lost the game and we don't like football losing games. "

" We must get back on track, we have got a good one tomorrow then obviously Leeds United away who are flying at Elland Road, but we have got a bit of a decent record at Elland Road over the last couple of years. So we are looking forward to that but Southampton is the big one and we are going to go all out to make everyone's day and finish the week well.

" I think that Southampton won their first game last week so they haven't started particularly well. They are in our division, they are competing at our level, so they may be a big name in years gone by but they are in our division and they are competing against Carlisle United Football Club tomorrow.

" If they get something then we are going to have to make sure that they play really very well. We are up for this one, the players are, the mood has been good, we have trained today and we have played very well. The lads are looking forward to it and it is a big game and we want to make sure that we finish it off right.

" Southampton spending £1 million on a player (Rickie Lambert) is the nature of football, we don't complain about these things, we just get on with it. Leeds United, we are going there on Tuesday night and it is the same thing but they are in our division so they are competing against us. Yes they may have a few more bob than we have but that is the beauty about football, it is a level playing field tomorrow.

" We try to look after our finances and get the sort of players in that we can afford and obviously it would be very nice to spend £1 million on a player, but you have got to get the right player. That is the case no matter how much money you pay, you have got to try to get the right player. But they will come here tomorrow, we are going to make it tough, I wouldn't think they would relish coming all this way from the south coast and let's make it a real hotbed for them tomorrow afternoon, which we are looking to do. "

" We always try to get something out of every game, we try to win every game and if we possibly can't win a game then we try to make sure that we get something out of it. But we are going out to win the game as we will do at Elland Road on Tuesday night. We are looking to win as many games as possible, I don't think that is rocket science. We try to do that if we possibly can and if we can't do it then we try to make sure that we don't lose, but we are looking to go out to try to get three points tomorrow.

" Goalscorers need that bit of luck and if we stop getting in positions and areas where we are not going to score goals then we will have a problem, but the lads are getting in there and if you miss you miss. But you can say to them not to worry about it and that they have got to get in there again and if you miss then you get in there again.

" That is what we have been saying and if you keep doing that then your luck will change and you will hit the target. If we don't get in those areas then we are going to question people but at the moment we think the lads are trying to get in those positions and score goals. We will be maintaining them to do that tomorrow and if they keep doing it then they will get their rewards.

" Criticism sometimes aimed at players is not good but we are in a professional sport, we have to accept these things and you just get on with it and get on, because tomorrow you could be heroes. That is one beauty about this game, you have got another game and somebody puts a couple of goals in the net then from being a villain he is a hero. Strikers live with that but we have worked, we are getting in there and hopefully we can turn it around tomorrow.

" We will wait and see if Richard Keogh is back tomorrow, we haven't discussed that, well we have discussed it but we will wait and see tomorrow until we make a final decision on that one. He is in the squad so therefore he has got a chance as the others have, if you are in the squad then you have got a chance. "
