Brighton striker Glenn Murray (GM) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after the Seagulls defeated Carlisle 4-3 at home, ex-Blues frontman Murray explaining why he didn't celebrate his goal in the game :
JP
What did it feel like scoring against your former side today?
GM
Obviously, it was nice scoring a goal but there was no celebration there because obviously Carlisle gave me my first chance in football and I appreciate that.
JP
Yeah, no celebration, I guess that is just a sign of respect to the people who as you say just really gave you that first stepping stone on the way to what has become quite a good career?
GM
Yeah, hopefully we can get promoted this year, which would be another step in the right direction, but I am hoping that Carlisle can sneak in the play-offs as well.
JP
Yeah, I am sure they will be too, when you did leave Carlisle United did you feel or have any inkling that you might get to where you are now and be the sort of revered striker that you are in these parts?
GM
Er, no, because when I left Carlisle I moved down leagues and luckily it was the right move for me at the right time. But, it can go wrong in so many ways.
JP
Also of course not just with Carlisle United, you really did make your way around the Cumbrian clubs trying to get that step in the right direction with your career?
GM
That is true yeah, Workington Reds and Barrow, and then obviously I got the chance with the big Cumbrian team in Carlisle.
JP
What is it like playing for a manager like Gus Poyet? I am just watching him right now being interviewed out there, he is a dapper fella and he is a cultured manager as he was player, and it transmits onto the way you all play football.
GM
Yeah, he has got us well drilled, we all know our jobs out there, and luckily it is paying off at the minute.
JP
Have you ever been involved in a game quite like today?
GM
No, it was very exciting, especially when I came off and watched the last two goals. Luckily we got the win in the end but Carlisle put in a great performance as well.
JP
What about your own situation? Of course the club hoping to to go up into the Championship next year, you are still to resolve exactly where you will be next year?
GM
Yep.
JP
Nothing else on that one then?
GM
No.
JP
Any chance one day maybe of a return to Carlisle? Is that something you would like to do? Not necessarily right now.
GM
You never know, you never know what football is going to throw up to be honest.
JP
You never know what it is going to do, and in terms of the match itself, sneaking a point at the end there, did you think that when Carlisle did get that equaliser that you had probably blown the chance of three points today?
GM
Yeah, I think as everyone else in the ground did as well. But, luckily we got that little bit of fortune on our side, and we got that win late on.
JP
And what a goal it was as well?
GM
Yeah, it certainly was.
JP
It was his (Liam Bridcutt's) left foot, it is his weak foot?
GM
Yeah, that is actually his first league goal.
JP
Is it? Because, he only went sideways all game, he did it well but it was the first time he went forward in the match?
GM
Like I say, that is how much our luck was in this afternoon with that being his first league goal.
JP
Do you think with that little bit of luck along with the quality you have clearly got, do you think these are the things that could well take you towards the Championship this year?
GM
I think anyone who does get into the Championship needs a little bit of luck and we had that this afternoon.
JP
And just a final message to all your friends and family and fans back in Carlisle after a day like today and on your time in Cumbria?
GM
I thoroughly enjoyed all my time at Carlisle, got back to back promotions and I hope the club does well in the future.
