Grays manager Wayne Burnett spoke to YourThurrock.com about his side's 2-0 first round FA Cup exit at the hands of Carlisle yesterday, Burnett suggesting that it would have been a different story had his side taken some of the chances that they created :

" We have given away, I think that they had one shot in the first-half, one corner, and they go in 1-0 up. We have had some decent chances today, on another day we could have maybe scored two or three goals but we haven't, but that's football I suppose. We matched them, competed, worked, but I expect that. Did we look out of our depth at all? Not in the slightest I didn't think.

" I actually thought that we were the better team in the first-half, then we are chasing the game slightly in the second-half. We have had some really, really good chances though, some really what I would call goalscoring opportunities and we haven't taken them. You can't chastise someone for missing but we have got in those goalscoring opportunities and I was happier today than I was the previous Saturday for sure.

" Their first goal came out of nothing, we couldn't believe it, we were a little bit stunned on the bench. We have given the ball away in our half and 20 seconds later the ball is in the back of the net, but that's why some of these players are playing for League One Carlisle. I can't fault my players for work-rate though and we had a real go today.

" I couldn't see the second goal, I thought that he was offside, I thought that it was an offside decision. I couldn't see, there was a bit of a melee and it has broken to the fellow (Graham Kavanagh) and he has put it in the net, probed it in the net. So I couldn't see but I thought that we could have cleared it on a number of occasions or even at times, at one time, I thought that he may have been offside, but I am not here to officiate, I am just here to criticise.

" They (Grays players) didn't give up, they didn't stop, they went right to the very, very end and I can't fault their work-rate or their commitment. We have had two or three really good chances and haven't put them away. When you are playing against a side of League One status you don't expect to get many chances and you have got to take them when they come.

" There is no consolation when you lose football matches, I knew that my players would work and I knew that they would compete but we are disappointed. Even though we are the underdogs and I would have expected us to win of course we are disappointed. I'm sick to death of keeping losing to be honest with you, I have completely had enough of it and I told the players that.

" As much as I can say well done to players we have got to start picking points up in the league, that is the important part. It is OK coming and playing well against Carlisle in an FA Cup game but we need to play well every week because good players play well consistently. "
