Greg Abbott
United assistant manager Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening ahead of tomorrow's match at home to Leeds United, Abbott chatting about the different threats offered by Michael Bridges and recent loan signing Jennison Myrie-Williams :

" It looks like it is going to be a tight one tomorrow by the looks of it. I think that last season they were probably four of the best games that we played. They were exciting, there was a lot of action and incident and atmosphere to everything about it. So hopefully tomorrow will be much more of the same and we can just edge out and come out on top in the game.

" I think that I am redundant as a motivator tomorrow, I won't have to say too much will I. It will be a big crowd in the ground tomorrow and the lads after last week's performance will be eager to get out on the pitch whoever it was. With it being Leeds though they are just up for it, training today was a really high tempo and there were like a group of schoolkids to be honest with Christmas Day coming tomorrow. So they are right up for it and let's hope that they go out there and do what they did last year against Leeds and perform like we know that they can.

" Michael (Bridges) has come in and he has got sharper and sharper and better and better as he has gone on. I think that he is probably thinking in his own mind that he is ready for a start, he is not a million miles away. He is one of those players that can make things happen, get us a goal when things aren't going great for us.

" Jennison (Myrie-Williams) is a different threat, he has got unbelievable pace, fantastic feet. If he gets a start or if he gets an appearance from the substitutes bench, whatever, then I am sure that he can come on and make an impact. I am sure that the fans will take to him because he really he is a quick individual and will put people on the back foot.

" Having a lot of choice on players probably puts pressure on the manager (John Ward). I would think that after six to eight weeks of the season that if players aren't playing then they are going to be knocking on his door. There is only so much that I can say to them, ultimately the manager names the side and he names the substitutes, and whoever is not in the team really won't get the answer off me. They have got to go to the manager and find out the where's and why fors of all that.

" I think that what happened last year though has made the gaffer really keen on having a big squad and one that has got strength in depth. I think that we are probably a little bit better equipped if we get into the later stage of the season with injuries and suspensions to have players there that can come in and not let the standards drop from when they come into the first-team. So it's good for the manager in one way but obviously it might cause him a few headaches with the players knocking on his door in another way.

" I think that with Ronnie (Wallwork) he has come in, he has missed pre-season and he has found that the fitness levels of our lads, which is probably a bit of a compliment to our boys, that they are very, very high. He has struggled to make a real positive impact and I think that the manager wants to bring players in always to the club but only if they are going to be better than what we have got.

" I think that he felt that at the moment in time Ronnie wasn't there, so I think that at the moment that is on a bit of a hold. Whether it resurfaces later on in the future remains to be seen but I think that we are happy with what we have got and to bring players in they must be better or potentially going to be better than the players we have already got. "
