Blues boss Greg Abbott
United boss Greg Abbott spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria this evening ahead of Carlisle's League One opener against Brentford at Brunton Park tomorrow, Abbott reasonably happy with United's pre-season efforts :

" We are as ready as we can be, the lads have worked very, very hard over pre-season. We think we are fit which is a starter, what we have got to do now is just get right stuck into Brentford. Respect them but don't be fearful of them and make sure that we get off to a good start, which is vital for us.

" You never want a pre-season which is a disaster, and it hasn't been, and you never want one that has been fantastic, which it hasn't been. We have made a few mistakes and we have had the chance to work on them, if you go into pre-season losing everything and looking really poor then it is a worry.

" If you go into pre-season and you win everything and you don't make any mistakes then you tend to think that you have already hit top form, but there is obviously work to do with a club like ourselves. We are OK, we are going into it full of energy, full of optimism and we want to get off to a good start.

" To be honest I would rather talk about the game tomorrow than talk about the tribunal. We can talk about the tribunal next week and all that will take care of itself. I think that at the minute we are whipping up a bit of a frenzy. The three strikers that we have got I actually feel a bit sorry for, because everybody is forgetting about them.

" We have got Gary Madine, Scott Dobie and Joe Anyinsah at the football club and everybody is talking about another striker. I feel like we are showing them a little bit of a lack of respect to be fair. So I think that if we concentrate on the game tomorrow and then we look at the tribunal and look at the effects of that next week then I think that is the way to do things. "

" Probably midway through the second-half of the game at Bradford I had made my mind up of my starting eleven for tomorrow. I was hoping that there would be things happen during the week that would make me change my mind but that hasn't happened.

" I am comfortable with the eleven that we are starting with, is it the right eleven or not the right eleven - well we will find out tomorrow at 4.45pm. What I want to make sure is that if it is not the right eleven then people behind that eleven are giving me massive ammunition to make sure that if I do make any changes then they are ready to come into the side and improve it.

" The fans played a massive part in the Millwall game, if we can go into the game tomorrow with a big positive edge from our supporters, like they did with the Millwall game. Let's treat every game as if it is our last game if you like, like the Millwall one when they turned up as 9,000 or 10,000 there, unbelievable support, every mistake we made was applauded, never mind things that we did well.

" If we can get that sort of edge from the fans then it spreads to the players quickly. If we show anxiety from the terraces then that spreads onto the pitch as well so if we can all work together like we did for the Millwall game then I think that the fans are in for a good performance from the players. The players then have to raise their game and respond to that reception they get.

" I am not so sure that I have got to win over the fans, I think that results win over the fans. What they have got to see is that I am trying to do the right things and I will always try to do the right things. I will work my socks off to make sure that I do and the fans will always make opinions, but what fans want is results and that is the industry that we are in. So let's hope that we win them over by getting some good results. "
