" I am pleased to get Kevan, we have been patient and we have been waiting to get the right players in, the right type of players in, and we think that Kevan fits the bill. He is a good player, he has got a terrific background in terms of what he has achieved at this level. Two promotions with Scunthorpe and we hope that he comes in, well we think we know that he is going to come in and make an improvement to our side. So we are happy with the way things are going to be honest at the minute.
" We are in a position where we can't go and buy just anyone, it is dead easy to have £20 million to spend and go and buy the best players in football. That is dead easy, my Grandma could do that. What we have got to try to do sometimes is hunt behind the eight ball if you like a little bit and get players that people don't know about quickly. I will tell you now that we were chasing James O'Shea, a player that has gone to Birmingham City and played in the Premier League yesterday for three months. We were minutes away from his signature and that is where we are.
" Birmingham got alerted to our interest, took him because they can afford to take chances and we lost out, and that would have been another fantastic signing for the club. That is the work that is going on and that is how comfortable I am in the scouting structure that we have got, that we can find these players and tap into these players early before the big boys take them off us.
" Kevan is a good crosser of the ball, technically he is very, very good. He has got two great feet, takes corners with the left or right foot if needed and can cross the ball with either foot. He is tough and he knows this level, he knows this level, he has been around it a lot of years now. He has had two promotions with Scunthorpe so we think that he is going to bring technical quality to our team and a toughness and an experience of how to win this league. "
" Who said he was a left-footer? Have you seen his right foot? I have to say that, he is an absolute diamond with both feet, so he is a right-sided player that is comfortable on the left. His right foot is his stronger foot by the way, he has played a lot of stuff on the left because that is how Nigel (Adkins - Scunthorpe manager) wanted to use him. He is a predominantly right-footed player though and he will play on the right-hand side for us as and when required.
" We are making enquiries again for strikers all the time and we are hopeful that something again will happen on that one. We will keep fighting like we did with the Kevan Hurst one until we get the right person and that work will be ongoing. I know about loads of players, James O'Shea from Ireland, we knew about him miles before anybody else. With all the contacts these big clubs have we were first in and made the first bid, nobody knew about that but that is the way we are, we know about loads of players.
" For Stockport we have just got to take in the encouragement that we have performed reasonably well against Oldham, got a result, a clean sheet. We played very well defensively against Millwall and got another clean sheet and it is a tough place to go. We have to take all that into the game and hopefully come out with a positive result. The confidence is building at this club though, this club is building. We need to be patient, we need to take our time, results are the key to everything that you do in football but we know what we have to do and we are on our way to try to achieve that.
" It looks like Peter Murphy and Paul Thirlwell are not going to make it tomorrow night. I have got to go back to see Dolly (Neil Dalton) because they were doing their own bits and pieces while we were doing the main core of the squad. I will see how they have reacted to the work they have done and then we will make a decision later on today, but it doesn't look like they are going to be involved at the minute. "
