Harry Arter Talks About The Game

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter spoke to BBC Radio Solent and his club's official website after his side's 4-2 League One win over Carlisle at Brunton Park, former United-loanee Arter pleased with four points out of six on the road for the Cherries this week:

"It was a great performance, any away win is a good result and two away trips, Notts County and Carlisle in one week is always going to be tough and demanding. But, we showed great character again today, and to win 4-2 away from home is a great win. I was here for a month and in that month we didn't lose, so it was one of those sort of places that everyone dreads to come to be honest because it is so far away and you get the cold weather shout and the typical 'don't want to go to Carlisle'. You can't let that affect you and today we didn't and we came here and got the three points.

"I think we are all confident, I think the lads in front of goal, Marc Pugh, Lee Barnard and Lewis Grabban, it has been coming from the start of the season and I would say it is confidence and luck to be honest with you, and both are going at the moment so it is working well. We are creating a lot more opportunities, we are playing with a higher tempo to our game and as long as we keep scoring we have got confidence in the lads in defence.

"To go a goal up was good, then obviously we lost the lead, but to go back in front was good. I either want to score or set goals up, so it pleasing to do one of them today. But, I wasn't very happy with Pughy near the end though, I was going to shoot and I would have scored with that if he hadn't pulled the ball away from me, so we had a little joke and I wasn't too happy with him.

"Signing my new contract took a little bit of thought because negotiations were going on with the previous management team here, and obviously there was a period when there was no manager in charge. It was something that the club didn't really want to do and myself, I didn't want to sign a long-term deal without knowing who is in charge, because if he comes in and doesn't like me or I don't like him then it would have been a waste to commit for that long.

"But, the gaffer (Eddie Howe) has come back and to be honest, as soon as I saw him come back I couldn't wait to sign. I feel we have got something really good going here and I know as an individual I am only going to develop and become a better player under Eddie, and I know the club is only going to progress, so it was a pretty straightforward decision in the end.

"I think the lads have got a huge amount of respect for him and some managers have just got it and I think he has just got it. I can't really put my finger on exactly what it is, but that is probably his greatest quality. He has gained the respect of the lads, the lads that are already here knew what he was about and there was instant respect, and the lads who didn't know him instantly respected him. I feel that we are playing for one and other and playing for the gaffer, and it is working really well at the moment.

"The group is really strong, I'm not saying it wasn't under the previous manager (Paul Groves) but it is a different feeling. I feel that is partly down to the fans, they are definitely in a better spirit now the gaffer is back and that probably does shadow onto the lads a little bit. It is a great feeling around the place in Bournemouth and momentum-wise we are doing really well. The key to us is going to be consistency, and one thing is for sure, the gaffer will never let us rest on our laurels and we will keep pushing each other 100% every game, and hopefully that will put us in the right direction."

Meanwhile veteran Cherries goalkeeper David James commented to his club's official website:

“It was a wonderful scrappy win. I think we lacked a little bit of discipline at times, but having said that offensively we looked decent, we looked like we were going to score, as we did, four goals isn’t bad at all. We gave away a couple of sloppy goals with a bit of sloppy play leading up to the goals, and at times maybe gave them a little bit more than they needed. But, saying that, 4-2, it is comfortable in the end and encouraging that we weren’t playing at our best to overturn a side which I think at home aren’t too bad.

“The finishing has been good, that is ten goals in three games, the disappointing thing is the other two games we have had three goals in the second-half and we only scored two today, so I am sure Eddie (Howe) will have a word with the strikers. We had a three goal cushion and I was never worried that we were going to throw the game away, but again it is just nice when as we have done in couple of other games where we have been in the lead, looked comfortable and just seen it out tidily.

“There were a couple of times where it just got a little bit scrappy and we just allowed them into the game a little bit, but happy with the win. I think the supporters will have enjoyed the game and we were conscious of our seven or eight hour journey back as well, and the feeling of not having a win to go home with. So, we have got the three points and scored four goals for the first time since I have been here, so it is all good.”
