Iffy Onuora
Gillingham caretaker manager Iffy Onuora spoke to BBC Radio Kent about the 2-0 defeat of the Gills by Carlisle at Brunton Park this afternoon, Onuora bemoaning the decision making of referee David Foster :

" Paul Scally just came down about an incident on the pitch, he felt that one or two of us were getting a bit agitated. I'd already seen it, Efe Sodje just had a tempestuous couple of minutes but he was alright. He was just making me aware of it that's all, but we'd seen it already, it wasn't a problem.

" I felt that we matched them for most of the 90 minutes, you take the goals out of the game then there is nothing in it. Infact their keeper probably had more work to do but I think it was disappointing. I'm not one to carp on, I don't come up here and make excuses for my team but I thought the referee's performance today was poor, I really do.

" I think that Simon Royce had been fouled for the first goal and he's given it, fair enough. Same thing happens at the other end, Chris Dickson scores a perfectly good goal and he disallows it, what the difference is only he can explain. After that obviously if we go in at 1-1 then it is a different game.

" We kept going though I thought, the spirit amongst the boys was good, we kept going and then obviously they get a deflected goal which makes it 2-0 and then you are up against it. We kept pushing on though, kept pushing on, I just felt, and I spoke to the players downstairs that the difference is just in the box.

" They defended not bad at times but at times I thought we could have just had that little bit more devil, and maybe a bit of luck when things didn't quite bounce for us in the box. Balls were in their box, certainly as many times as they had balls in our box and we just weren't able to make it count."

" I thought that we were in the game, you just want to get to the 20-25 minute mark before you think that you have weathered the early storm. It was flat though really, I think we managed to subdue them. We were hoping, 15 minutes was it I think the first goal, you want to get beyond that point really to go in and give yourselves a blank scoreline at half-time but it wasn't to be.

" So again you are always chasing it but I felt that we had little bits of chances, little things that didn't quite fall for us, maybe it was the final ball at times. So it was disappointing in that respect but I'm not too downhearted, I think that anyone that has seen us on our travels and has seen us today will have seen that it was a marked improvement. We're aware though when all's said and done that it's still a defeat.

" I'm a half-full glass kind of guy so I'll look at it as though we can bounce on from this. We know that we've got to improve away from home but we'll put the away form to bed now for a couple of weeks and concentrate on picking up points at Priestfield. We'll use this as a marker and a yardstick for us though we have to say that this is the minimum performance that we expect away from home, now can we improve on that.

" It's been pretty much as it always has been for me, I come in and do my work and do my job, and do what is required of the job to the best of my ability. That's the way I'll keep doing it until such time as that changes. So that's how we are, ready for Monday morning and we go on from there.

" No indication yet on when a new manager might be coming in, but, like I say, that doesn't affect me as much. I sleep fine in that regard, I don't stay awake at night wondering what is happening about things that I can't really control. So I just worry about things that I can control, so what will be will be and I'll wait the same as everybody else to see how anything unravels. As far as I'm concerned though on Monday morning it's back to training and we go on again looking forward to Bristol Rovers.

" I haven't got a lot to say about the Mark Stimson rumours, it was that week wasn't it for sackings, resignations or mutual consents. It might be Sammy Lee might it not if he comes down - who else went last week, who knows? It's all speculation and it doesn't concern me until any such time as anything does concern me, so at the moment I'll just get on with my job. "
