Jamie Paterson Talks About The Game

Walsall winger Jamie Paterson spoke to his club's official website and the Express & Star after his side's 2-1 League One defeat against Carlisle at the Banks's Stadium, Paterson suggesting a draw would have been a fairer result:

"I don't think we deserved to lose the game, but I don't think we deserved to win the game, it could have gone either way. That is just football and it has been an unfortunate goal at the end of the game. But, we keep our heads high and we move on to the next game. In the last couple of games it has been individual errors which have cost us, not just Karl (Darlow). A few of us have made errors – including myself – and we need to cut them out.

"It’s not Karl’s fault. I thought he (Liam Noble) was about 20 yards offside and I was waiting for the flag to go up. It was a great goal we scored though and I think we will score more of those this season with our movement and pace that we break at teams. The result has taken a bit of gloss off my goal personally, but hopefully we can change it in our next league game.

"It wasn't an easy chance George Bowerman had late in the first-half, but maybe if he scores that it would have been a little bit different, going into half-time 2-1 up. But, that is football, you can't expect him to score from everywhere on the pitch, he has scored six or seven already this season, and I still think it was a good save from the keeper (Mark Gillespie). So, hopefully we can bounce back from it and he can score in the next game.

"I think we still created chances and I think we will always create chances as a team with the way we play. We did create a couple of clear-cut chances that I believe on another day we would have put away, but it is just football. I think they scored a lucky goal at the end and I think they maybe think they deserve it, but that is just football.

"People keep saying that we are a really young side, but I think we have proved that we are a match for anyone in this league at the minute. It has been unfortunate with the last two results, but I don't think we have deserved to lose either of the games. Hopefully we can bounce back on Tuesday in the cup game (Port Vale at home) and get a bit of momentum into the live game on Sunday (Shrewsbury away) and get three points.

"We have to make sure that we keep our heads high and move on to the next games. I don't think any of the build-up for the live game will be any different to what it usually is. Me personally I have never played on television, but I am guessing that once you are on there you don't think about the cameras. So, hopefully we can go there and show live on SKY what we are about and get the three points."
