United manager John Ward spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey after Carlisle's 2-0 defeat at home to Leeds this afternoon, Ward suggesting that the visitors were more clinical with their chances :

" I think that the better side won and I think that we were that little bit behind in passing and keeping the ball. Then the final part of the game, the clinical stuff, they have put two goals in the back of our net and we haven't. The early clinical play from ourselves in the first five or six games has deserted us a wee bit in the last two games. So I have got no real grumbles about the result, I think that the better team has won the game today.

" The game was relatively tight and close but we are pushing on obviously at the end when the second one has come, but it is a real quality break and goal for them. You have got to put your hands up sometimes and say that but overall I think that in the game they kept the ball that little bit better than us.

" We crowded around it and we shaped ourselves up, but when we did get forward a couple of our corners and free-kicks weren't quite as good as we wanted. When we did get them right we weren't attacking the ball well enough. So we don't really deserve 2-0 I think but I have got to take that because that is what happened, but they were slightly better than us and we have got to take it.

" I can't go in that dressing-room and have a shout at anybody or anything. Everybody has tried very, very hard, we want to be a bit better of course we do in terms of the quality that we have got. I think that a good number of guys in the Paddock stayed behind to applaud the team off at the end even in defeat. It shows that they are backing this team and the team are backing them, but we have not been up to Leeds United's standards today. We have got to say that and accept it and work hard to be a bit better. "

" These are future champions aren't they, everyone is looking at that, and I think that they are a better team than they were last year. With people like (Fabian) Delph and (Luciano) Becchio that give them extra invention I think and composure with the ball. So they have got a real good crop coming through, we have had a good bench today but when you look at their bench as well they are good players.

" I think that there have been two good teams here and they are absolutely delighted to get the win because they know that it has been a tough fixture. We are a wee bit behind them though and we have got to keep working hard to try to achieve that level if you like at our league.

" We have said before that the four games last year had a lot on them, of course they did, but I think that the football was absorbing enough to keep any other thoughts of mischief out of the way. I think that has happened today, both sets of supporters have gone home thinking that they are not bad, but we know, our lot, that we have got to be a bit better. They know that they have got a good team, that is it, we have got to work hard but Carlisle United will do that, they will stick together and we will try very hard at Walsall next week. Hopefully the people that follow us there will appreciate that too.

" He (Danny Graham) got injured didn't he in the first period, a crack on the head and he was very woozy and not sure about everything. The doctor did think that he was OK but we made the decision prior to coming out, I think that Danny wanted to try five or ten minutes, but we made the right one for him and he has accepted that. He wasn't right to go out and perform again so we had to make the change. "

" Murph (Peter Murphy) picked up a knock, a little knee ligament damage, he tried yesterday and knew that he wasn't right. Again though to his credit, he has told me early enough so that I can make the change. I think that we have seen Richard Keogh work exceptionally hard in training and two or three games in the reserve team. He has done OK today hasn't he, it was a difficult game to come into but we know about him and he is a good guy.

" He (Jennison Myrie-Williams) has got quick feet and does certain things. He was close to that one at the back-post that has taken a deflection, you think that if that hadn't been deflected then he might have been there for an equaliser, but that is the fine line of winning and losing type things. It was just again looking at how early we needed to make changes because Simon Hackney was feeling a little bit of tightness in his thigh.

" They are the things that I know about that other people don't, and you have to just protect and look after. Simon has got through the 90 minutes but we may have looked at a little alteration slightly earlier. I think that we have tried though with the three substitutes and the team have tried very hard, but we have just not been up to Leeds United today.

" Right at the beginning Simon got in a super position to deliver and he has just mis-clipped the cross and dropped it on top of the bar instead of on somebody's head coming in there. That set the stall out for our game a little bit, we got into some good positions, we are probably not going to get as many as normal because these are a better team. When you get there you have got to make it pay and they have made it pay better than us.

" It was a good game, I am disappointed for my team because they want to be better and they want to work hard. They have done that today and we are just that little bit short of getting up to this level. There are always things to strive for though, I have got a good team and a good group of people that are working hard to try to do that. You are just disappointed that we haven't done a wee bit better against a very strong team, but that's us, we will stick at it and work hard again next week for everybody. "
