John Ward
United boss John Ward spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he talked about the excellent 1-0 home victory over Leyton Orient that takes the Blues back up to second in the League One table, Ward commenting on a hard-working performance throughout the team :

" I thought it was a powerful performance right the way through. We set our stall out this week to try to put that type of performance in. I challenged the boys a little bit, saying to them that we have had two away games where we could have another four points in the bag at Brighton and then last week at Northampton. I said that we can't get those back but we can get three of them today and that was the challenge. To their credit they have come through with the challenge, they have accepted it and put on a very, very strong performance to win the game.

" They (Chris Lumsdon and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson) are the boys that you need in situations like this, and I added (Paul) Thirlwell to them later on just to calm it down a little bit. Or get the organisation together when you, you're not hanging on but you're making sure that it doesn't happen again to us in the last minute. So I'm really pleased with the way that that experienced midfield has done well, and then the exuberance of the front boys. There was a little bit of naivete from them sometimes but a lot of excitement and there is a nice mix in this team.

" We just need to find him (Danny Carlton) a goal or he needs to find himself a goal. He's threatening though, he's in positions and he's the type of guy that supporters would think they would be like if they were wearing the shirt at Carlisle. They would try absolutely everything and work as hard as that and that would get him appreciation from people.

" The two centre-backs particularly I thought were very strong today. We said, even before the game, that it's important that we keep the shape and keep ourselves together. This is a good side, Leyton Orient are not up at the top of the league by accident and they have got some good players and we saw some good things from them. It was important though that those guys at the back held strong and held firm and they did right the way through 90 minutes. When we had a little bit of pressure to survive in the last few minutes then they came through with flying colours, they were very, very good today.

" They have got a good an away record as anybody in the division, I think they have had five victories on the road. They are not just going to come here and lie down, they are going to attack and come at us and we've handled that well. We said that we wanted to break up their football, you saw that if you give them time then they can pass and play and create problems. We've broken up their football though, we just needed a little bit more care in the final 30 yards of the pitch I felt when we had the ball ourselves but certainly the commitment of the team and the clean sheet was absolutely delightful.

" Again we mentioned to them at half-time that it was very important that they keep their discipline at the back, Keiren (Westwood) and the two centre-backs, that they don't have to chase and win the game. If we can't win it at the top end then it's important that we take something from the game, the nice thing is that we have it at the top end and the clean sheet is there as well. I'm sure that Keiren Westwood will tell you about a couple of saves he might have made though.

" I think the missing crowd felt they had missed something against Swindon when we got three goals and we won very, very well. They have come back today and hopefully they will want to come again next week because it's a pretty top game next week isn't it. I know we have had great support from everybody here this afternoon, we'll need you again next week please. We've got Swansea, we'll try your best on the pitch, if you do it off the pitch then we might have another good day, who knows? "
