Jon-Paul McGovernUnited midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern (J-PM) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) following Carlisle's 4-1 League One victory at home to Bury, McGovern understandably pleased with the result :

JP

What a result in the end for you all?

J-PM

It is a great result, obviously to score so many goals as well was fantastic. I thought we started the game quite well, we had a few half chances, they have got the goal which changed it and Nobs (Liam Noble's) goal was fantastic, absolutely top drawer, in the stanchion, he does that in training and that got us going again.

JP

In terms of the way the game went, as we just said to your boss Greg Abbott there it was almost the perfect away display from Bury, they came here with a gameplan and they almost pulled it off, but you didn't let them, that must make it even more satisfying the win today?

J-PM

Yeah, I think it is satisfying, I think just the home form when you look at that it is pretty satisfying for how we have started the season and we have kept it going throughout. I think there will be people coming up here now thinking it is a real tough tie to come here and play Carlisle at home. I felt we proved that today, they definitely came with a plan on how they wanted to play and they got the goal which helps their plan. But, we have turned it round and we have got the goals and Cooky (Jordan Cook) has come on and made a fantastic contribution and got a goal for us, and after that it was kind of one way traffic.

JP

And with the way you like to play football, I am sure the Brunton Park turf really helps you guys as a team but is there anything else behind why you think you are in such good form now? Fourteen matches without defeat here now?

J-PM

I think we have said it before, I think the team morale is fantastic, behind the scenes we are all pretty close, I think the manager (Greg Abbott) is very important to that, how him and Kav (Graham Kavanagh) really get us ready for the game. We are very much us against everyone else and there are other things that happen, sometimes the fans get on your back and sometimes the newspapers can say bits and bobs, I think that is just the way it is. We know in house what we have got, what we can produce and as you see we are getting results week in and week out.

JP

You know when you compare this to a game like the defeat for instance at Notts County, the last defeat on the road, do you feel like you have given more on a day like today than you did at Notts County or did you give the same but it just doesn't somehow go your way? What are your feelings as players on days like that?

J-PM

I think everyone gives the same, I think it is 100%, no-one is going to go out there and not try and not try to play well. Everyone, whether you are in it for yourself, whether you are in it for the team, whether you want to prove you are a good player or prove other people wrong I think everyone has got their own motivation. For me I think you come out here and you are trying to prove to people how good a player you are.

I think we did the same at Notts County, when you look overall at the game, OK, we started the game OK, they have got two quick goals, we had a couple of half-chances including myself and Paddy (Madden) who had a few chances and they just never went in for us that day. Today the goals have gone in, the chances have gone in and suddenly everyone goes away home happy.

JP

Is Lee Miller's performance today a shining example to younger players of what endeavour is about because it just wouldn't quite happen for him but he didn't hide, he kept on trying and in the end he winds up with two goals?

J-PM

Well, we were actually having a bit of a banter about it because as he was celebrating he was saying that he had had a shocker and he'd scored two goals so he would take that. I think he has been a shining example all season, I think he is the spearhead of our attack and he is very important to my personal play, I look forward to playing with him and I like to get it round the corner and use him a lot and use his strength. I think he takes us up the pitch and holds onto it, I think he is a vital cog in this machinery.

I thought today he got his two goals, he will be happy with that, I think in recent weeks he has felt like he has not been in the right position to score the goals and take his chances and he has done that today. But, I think he can play a lot better than that, we know that, but you can accept that when he scores two goals.

JP

Yeah, you certainly can, in terms of the way that this home form is going, do you kind of feel now as players if you can just add a touch more on the road that you will be almost unstoppable as you go for that play-off spot?

J-PM

Yeah, I think no matter what anyone says we are going for the play-off spot. I think we are at the stage now where we are in the mix and there is no reason, you look at the table, I think if you gave 100% Carlisle fans then they would have turned round and said yeah we will take that, to be seventh, a point behind and two games in hand, then you would take that.

JP

Yeah, we jotted it down after the game, seventh in the table, a point behind Notts County with two games in hand, four points ahead of Stevenage now despite their getting a point today against Chesterfield, eight ahead of Colchester who are in ninth and nine ahead of Brentford in tenth. These things start to stack up but it would appear it is going to be between you Stevenage and Notts County, it is almost like a three way battle for that final play-off spot now and it is very exciting?

J-PM

Yeah, I think just looking at that it wasn't so long ago we were getting absolutely battered I think online and a few people talking about it after the Brentford game. You are looking at them and you are saying we are nine points ahead of them or whatever we are, and I think that goes to show over the course of the season you are going to get games, there have been games that we have lost our shape and things haven't gone for us. But, over the course of the season we have deserved to be where we are for that consistency, especially at home, if we can add to that a little bit away from home then there is no reason why we can't kick on again.

JP

So, a bit of perspective is what you are asking for, sometimes you will have good days, sometimes you will have bad, because you can understand why fans were disappointed after Brentford?

J-PM

Oh, definitely, I think we were all disappointed, I think we built ourselves up and took a bit of a knocking. It is always nice to play well on television, it is always nice to get good results, it is always nice that if we play well people turn round and say that we are a great footballing side or this and that.

But, on the flip side of that we never did it on the day, but we have picked ourselves back up, we have got the results, we went to Notts County and never got a result there but we have won our two home games, so it suddenly puts us back in and everyone is saying that is us, we are back in the play-offs. Like I say, in house we know what we are all about, we know we are confident, we have got people knocking certain players doing whatever but everybody does a job for the team and we are a team here and that is what is the most important thing.

JP

Well, well played today, you will get knocks some days, that is football I suppose and that is life, but today everyone deserves a big pat on the back, it was a great effort to beat a team who really fought hard and it didn't look like they were going to let you break them down?

J-PM

Yeah, no, fantastic, I think we take the three points now and we have got a real tough test on the road again, I think Bournemouth anyway, so we look forward to that and full of confidence.
