Terriers boss Lee Clark spoke to the official Huddersfield website after his side's 1-0 Carling Cup first round win over Carlisle at Brunton Park tonight, Clark suggesting Town were a little lucky to win the game thanks to an 89th minute goal from Jordan Rhodes :

" We've won and Cup football is about winning. But, I think that over the game Carlisle can count themselves a little bit unfortunate after they were dominant for longer periods of the game.

" But, in a strange sort of way we probably had the better chances - we hit the crossbar a couple of times and made their 'keeper work. But, I just thought that our general play wasn't up to the standard that we did on Saturday and for sure over the game we were second best, in the first half especially.

" You know what though - we've played two away games, we've had two clean sheets and we've had two wins so I'm being a little bit picky; I just have to set good standards for the boys.

" As I said to them, part of the squad's make-up now is that they are resolute and with the help of some of the experienced lads at the back we can do this now. There will be other occasions this season where we have to do this - withstand a lot of pressure, ride our luck a little bit and nick the game. "

" I thought to be fair to Jordan (Rhodes) he looked our main goal threat - he had two efforts on the crossbar. Then obviously Lee (Novak) came on and did a great little bit of work for him and given him a good chance, so we're in the next round. What it doesn't say tomorrow is the performance, it just says that Huddersfield will be in the second round.

" That goal shows that Lee's development is continuing. He has been a fantastic signing for us and I think the biggest compliment that everyone at our Club can pay him is that the other players love him, on the pitch and on the training ground.

" Because they can see the work ethic he puts in for the team, he is a proper team player and as you have seen there he possibly could have his own glory if he wanted to try to shoot. But, he has seen his strike partner in a better position and rolled him the perfect ball, so we're delighted.

" We were getting ready for extra time, without a doubt, when you get that close you are. That prospect was a bit frustrating as it was the last thing we wanted because we have had two journeys this week now and I didn't want another half an hour, as one or two of my players looked a little bit tired.

" So, I certainly didn't want that but I didn't want them to be getting a goal so that it didn't go to extra-time, so it was the perfect outcome really. My players need to recharge their batteries and what tonight has shown is that we might need to alter the training schedule for individuals a little bit, because one or two looked a little bit leggy with the two games so close to each other, so we will have a look at that. "
