United midfielder Luke Joyce spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday evening as he talked about Carlisle's 2-1 pre-season defeat at home to Middlesbrough, Joyce chatting about the qualities that Michael Bridges will bring to the United side :

" There is plenty of competition for central midfield, so whenever you get your chance you have got to do your best and put a good show in for the manager. I suppose that every chance you get you have got to try to prove yourself. Everyone has come back in good shape and everyone is enjoying the games, especially games like this against Premier League opposition.

" I think that everybody thrives on it and just wants to get out there and do their best. It was my first 90 minutes of the new season that, so I enjoyed it. My legs weren't too bad, I'm sure that they will be sore in the morning but I felt quite good and I felt fit enough.

" It's very important to try to be in the sixteen, if not the eleven, but the whole squad, as the gaffer (John Ward) keeps going on about. It is not just the starting team, it's the whole squad, everyone is going to be needed and everyone needs to pitch together. Even if they are not involved just keep the lads going, keep encouraging the lads and provide plenty of competition, which can only make the team better.

" He (Michael Bridges) adds a lot of experience obviously, he has played at the top, he has played with the best players in the Premier League. He is just that bit of class and that something different that probably we haven't got to create something or score a goal. His awareness is always very good, to get at defenders and bring other people into play.

" I think that we have seen that in the past couple of games when he has played. We have seen from a couple of years ago when we were in League Two what he could bring to the team even in that league. I am positive that he can do it again at this standard. "
