"I was quite happy to play on when the light went out, because we were a goal up but Colin (Todd) wanted to go off and come back the next day. When that happens, the referee has to ask both managers if they want to carry on. If one says no, that's it.
"But we stand by that. In the meantime we had to make sure the players' concentration was there, that they didn't stiffen up and they were switched on as soon as the lights come on. And thankfully they got the lights back on and the game continued.
"It did spoil our rhythm a bit and Bradford played well in the second half. But it was more even in extra-time – and I was delighted to see the penalties go in. I said to the players at full-time that I didn't think Bradford could beat us, and we've stood up and been counted.
"The boys who came in have been magnificent and they haven't let their team-mates down. Last week I took a little bit of a chance by keeping the same team for three games in a week, and we lost the third one (at Yeovil). I wasn't prepared to let that happen again. Oldham on Sunday is our bread-and-butter. This was a bonus.
"But I want players to battle for their positions and I think they showed that everybody wants a place in this team. It also showed the squad is all fighting in the same direction."
