United midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening about his lengthy absence this season due to a toe operation, the former Port Vale man one of the few Carlisle players that will be looking forward to the start of pre-season training :

" I am not too bad, I am quite chuffed because I have been running today so I have got a little bit of a buzz on today. Full training, I am not really sure, I will be back for pre-season, it is just a question of trying to get myself into some sort of fitness now ready to train with the lads. Probably in the next two or three weeks I will be able to start ball work and stuff. So it will be a case of doing all that on my own and then come that first day of pre-season I will be right in there with the rest of the lads.

" Unfortunately I have obviously missed a big chunk of the season but I have had a bit of time off, the club have been really good to me in that way. They have given me a bit of time off to spend with my family and stuff so if you like I had my summer in the last three months, rather than the next month or two coming up now. So it is only fair that I get myself to a decent level of fitness before we go back.

" It is tough but I have spent three months sat on my backside really. So you kind of get that feeling that you want to get out there and start running, I won't be as fit as if I would have been training with the rest of the lads, but I will be somewhere there or thereabouts, which is what I need to do.

" As we have said before, it is a strange situation really. Obviously this season has gone pretty poorly all round really but we finished on such a great day, with obviously we managed to stay up and everyone is on a bit of a high, so we go into the summer on a bit of a high. Whereas last season we had what turned out to be a really good season, and obviously the last game of the season we were all disappointed and gutted. "

" It took me probably three of four weeks to kind of get over that, you go into the summer and you are gutted and you are kind of in that negative frame of mind. You just want to get back and get back into the swing of things, so it is a good thing and hopefully we can build on it for the start of next season.

" It was frustrating for me just watching, I am not the best of watchers anyway, not when you think that you could be out there. It is different when you are watching Manchester United and Arsenal and things but when you are watching the team that obviously you play for, you feel like you can get out there and help the lads and do your bit.

" Basically the last couple of months was just like everyone else, I was more of a fan than a player. There was not a lot that I could do, I could be in the changing room and support the lads but once they go out over that white line you just have to sit back and watch them and hope for the best.

" As soon as I found out that I had to have the operation and everything that needed doing then that was my season finished. My aim then was obviously to get ready for pre-season and come back and be strong and be fit and hit the ground running really, getting myself back in that team and playing well.

" I'll keep in touch with certain people over the summer, obviously I talk to Thirls (Paul Thirlwell). I have just been on a coaching course actually with Paul, we only finished that yesterday so we have been every day together, so we have been having a bit of a laugh and that. I haven't spoken to anyone else yet but in the next week or two I will probably make contact with a few of the lads and try to find out what everyone is up to and what they are doing. "
