United striker Mark Beck (MB) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton (PN) following Carlisle's 2-0 League One win at home to Brentford, Beck delighted to get all three points:
PN
How enjoyable was that to play in today?
MB
Oh, it was brilliant, I really enjoyed it, it is a massive win for us and I really enjoyed playing in it.
PN
We were saying after the game, we saw real spirit in the team today. I mean Brentford are a very good footballing side, but it just seemed as though you wanted it more than them today?
MB
Yeah, definitely, I mean we have shown the determination we have today and we showed it at Crawley as well. We have just got that determination to keep going and obviously get the goals and see it out.
PN
Obviously, you got the second goal which wrapped it up, it was a well taken goal, talk us through what you can remember of it?
MB
Well, I just remember their centre-half making a mistake, Brad Potts picked it up and just kept running and I have just kept sprinting, well alongside him but further across the pitch, and I shouted for it and thankfully enough it was a perfectly weighted ball and I just swung at it and it went in the far corner.
PN
By my reckoning that is four goals you have got now in four starts this season, that is some record?
MB
Yeah, I am pleased with that and hopefully I can just keep scoring goals.
PN
Obviously, now Lee Miller is out of the team with his three game suspension is there a bit of extra pressure on you maybe to try to fill that role of an experienced player like Lee?
MB
Yeah, because obviously Lee does a fantastic job when he is up there and it is a big ask to occupy that one upfront, and I just try to do the best I can.
PN
Enjoying the opportunity to start games as well, I guess that is absolutely crucial to your development as a player?
MB
Yeah, definitely, I mean I just wanted as much pitch-time as I could this season and luckily enough I have had four starts and got on quite a lot, so I am pleased with that.
PN
A goal for Sean O’Hanlon as well, again O’Hanlon and Danny Livesey have done a great job in the centre of that defence today didn’t they?
MB
Yeah, tremendous, since Sean has come especially we have tightened up massively at the back and a good header as well from Sean today.
PN
Is there a bit of a two-way battle between you two about who gets on the end of these set-pieces, because you are both pretty tall?
MB
I don’t know, just whoever is closest, I mean just put a name on it and get up and head it and hopefully it goes in.
PN
How much do you feel as though you are coming on as a player at the moment?
MB
Yeah, I feel I am, at the start of the season I think I have come on quite a bit and hopefully I can just keep up there and see what happens.
PN
I guess what is important as well for you today other than getting the goal, you got a full 90 minutes in as well?
MB
Yeah, I had 90 minutes at Crawley and struggled a little bit towards the end, but I felt that I kept going well and every minute on the pitch is valuable experience for me.
PN
Is that something you think is going to come with time, that fitness that you can get through and are going to get physically stronger to get through the 90 minutes the more you play?
MB
Yeah, definitely, every minute you are on the pitch you learn and obviously you get match fitness through games.
PN
What was the mood like in the dressing room after the game today?
MB
Buzzing, everybody was buzzing, we all know it was a massive result and other results went our way as well, it was a great result today.
PN
As a team do you feel the pressure, before today you had gone six games without a win and obviously getting dragged into that relegation picture and there has been a bit of criticism as well for some of the performances, especially here at Brunton Park, as players is that something you are aware of?
MB
Yeah, we knew we haven’t been the best lately, but we had a good performance down at Crawley the other night and we know we have got the quality in the squad to get results like that, and it was well earned today.
PN
Big game coming up on Tuesday away at Doncaster as well isn’t it?
MB
Yeah, I mean they have gone top now haven’t they, they are flying and I am sure they will be a strong team. But, if we can put in another performance like that with the same determination then I don’t see why we can’t get something.
PN
Assuming you do play, looking forward and relishing a battle against Rob Jones, who is even taller than you perhaps is he?
MB
Yeah, definitely, I remember my first full debut was against Doncaster and I thought I did alright against him, so it will be a good challenge.
PN
I have got to ask you as well about Mathieu Manset, the Frenchmen who we hope the deal will get done at some point over the weekend. I know he has been training with the team this week, how has he looked?
MB
He has looked pretty sharp, he is a big lad as well. I didn’t see much of him in training but from what I did see he looked a big handful.
PN
What is his English like?
MB
He hasn’t really spoken, I shook his hand and obviously introduced myself, but he just said his name and I haven’t heard anything else.
PN
Can he understand you and the rest of the lads?
MB
I think so, I hope so anyway.
