Matty RobsonUnited goalscorer Matt Robson spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips following Carlisle's 1-1 League One opening day draw away to Stevenage, Robson saying that the Blues would have taken a point prior to kick-off:

"It would have been nicer if we had taken the win, but I think before a ball was kicked at the start of the game I think we would have taken a point. They proved last year they were a good team but I thought we came here and matched them, we didn't really look like conceding, they had a few half chances and it was just at the end they managed to sneak one, but I think we can be happy.

"It is good to be further forward, I have said previously that just to be in the team is a massive bonus and I am sure there are lads who are desperate to get in. But, I have obviously got to try to work hard and keep hold of that shirt because at the minute I am really enjoying my football. It has continued from last season before my injury really, I just seem to be enjoying myself.

"I can just feel the back of my neck and I think I have burnt myself, but it is the same for both teams to be honest. I think the referee (Fred Graham) was quite sensible in allowing us to take fluid on because there was no way you could go flat out in that for 90 minutes without taking on water. It was quite sensible of him but I hope we don't have too many more of those days.

"We didn't have a day like this in pre-season, we didn't have temperatures like this, but the hard work is paying off and the lads are getting through 90 minutes. If they can get through 90 minutes in these conditions then we will have no problems through the season.

"I got the wedding ring on my finger this summer, obviously it was a great day, apart from that it was the complete opposite of this, it was a bit rainy for a change. But, it has been a great couple of months, it has been a new chapter in my life and so far it has been quite an impressive one. It is not bad for me at the moment, the next step is looking towards family, that will come in due time, at the minute I am concentrating on helping the team out and hopefully getting a few goals in.

"It would be nice to follow the trend of kids at Wembley, but there is no pressure on, a few of the lads are giving me a bit of stick already. But, it is going to be an important and tough season for us, we want to improve on what we did last year and the next step up for us is the play-offs, so fingers crossed.

"Danny Cadamarteri came on and had a great impact into the game, I have just seen he has got full control of the ball and I have made the run inside him, we did it in pre-season at Kendal, it was pretty much exactly a similar thing. I got it and there was only one thing in my mind and that was to go across the keeper (Jamie Day) and fortunately it went in."
