" It's a relief, obviously we have been talking for a couple of weeks now and it is just a relief to get it all done. Obviously it is an honour to sign for a big club like this so I am looking forward to starting tomorrow. I was aware of the interest about a month ago, I had a phone call through my agent and he said that they (Carlisle) were interested.
" So I came across, obviously met the gaffer (Greg Abbott) and he showed me around, he laid all his cards on the table and told me what was what. Then from then on we had a handshake and from then on it was a club that I was interested in signing for, so I am just glad that it is done.
" There were rumours about Swindon, obviously there are always going to be a few rumours but Carlisle were the only ones who really laid everything out on the table and what they wanted. So I honoured that and took them up on the offer and signed for them. Of course I wanted to stay in the north, my partner works locally as well so it was ideal really. To only travel an hour out of the way is ideal and an opportunity that I couldn't miss.
" I wanted to move on because I just think that at this stage in my career I was not playing as much as I would like to. At the age I am (24) I just wanted to play regular games and obviously a new challenge in my career personally. I was sort of in a rut, it was really easy for me to get the training but I just wanted a new challenge and to up my level of performance here.
" Personally I think that I performed well last season but I was getting my chances and then being taken out which is a bit frustrating at times. Then playing well for the reserves and not getting a look in, it was just frustrating really and it can just knock your confidence. I have got the chance here though to put everything right and to show people what I am capable of week in and week out. "
" My strengths are obviously attacking, pace, 100% effort all the time, a lot of it is based on work ethic really and supporting the other boys. It is just everything that I have always done, I have always been fully committed to everything that has been thrown at me, and that is all that I can say.
" It's a yes and no really about a difficult decision to leave Hartlepool. It wasn't a difficult decision to come over and for me to play football because I needed the challenge. Obviously there are a lot of good friends that I had there but they come and go in football. At the end of the day you have just got to think about what is right for Matty Robson and this is what was right.
" Greg Abbott played a massive part, he laid all his cards out on the table and told me what he wanted and what he was looking for. It was what you can't knock really, the honesty, and obviously I hope to repay his faith in me here. I have spoken to Graham Kavanagh over the phone a couple of times, but obviously I know a few of the boys. There are a few that I don't know but hopefully they will welcome me into the team.
" The Carlisle supporters are passionate, they get behind their team. You only have to look obviously at the attendances in the last year, the clubs that were in our league and I think that they (Carlisle) had the sixth highest attendance and maybe they didn't have the best season last year. It still shows that they get behind the team which is fantastic.
" Personally I think that I am joining a bigger club than Hartlepool, you only have to look at the stadium and Carlisle itself, it is a massive city. So I think that it is a bigger team and hopefully we can have a big season. Obviously pre-season is going to be tough but you expect that every pre-season, you have just got to knuckle down and do the graft, and you will be rewarded at the end of it. "
