Town caretaker manager Dave Byrne spoke to his club's official website and the Swindon Advertiser about the 1-1 draw against Carlisle at the County Ground, Smith understandably frustrated about Paul Thirlwell's late United equaliser :

"I didn't think it was what we deserved but the boys have to go out and learn how to win games. I don't think we could have done anymore. I thought we should have wrapped the game up a lot earlier than we did. Coxy (Simon Cox) and (Lee) Peacock hit the woodwork. Billy Paynter flashed one across at the end and we certainly went close."

"It just keeps happening, it is concentration. The games are not just about ninety minutes - it's until the final whistle and we just didn't keep going as required. I knew we would score as we have said before. We have conceded again but I won't blame the back four because they were magnificent today.

"The stats don't lie. It is another goal against us and another game where we haven't kept a clean sheet. I thought he (referee Anthony Bates) was absolutely dreadful. I thought his decision making was abysmal and his overall display was probably one of the worst I've ever seen.

"There were some bright spots because Callum Kennedy and Lee Peacock did very well. Callum was looking comfortable and he was playing against a good player in Cleveland Taylor. Cal put some really good balls into the box and he can be proud of himself today, as can the club because we have produced another player who can go out and play League One football.

"I said to the boys at half-time that a clean sheet will win us the game because I knew we would score and was so confident of it. But again, we've gone and scored a goal and haven't won the game. If we perform like we know we can then we can go there (Crewe) and get the three points. What we have going forward is fantastic and if we can get a clean sheet then we will win games."

Meanwhile former Blue Lee Peacock commented to the Swindon Advertiser :

"I was frustrated on the pitch. There were one or two tackles that went in which people could have got hurt with, and that was my problem with it. It's down to the referee to take control of the game and it didn't seem to happen. There were one or two on the far side which got a little bit naughty.

"I got booked in the first half and, fair enough, if it's a booking it's a booking, but I thought there were worse tackles out there and nothing was happening. Macca (Anthony McNamee) gets nailed two or three times in the first half and nothing happens. Then again in the second half there was one really bad one and he's booking no-one. You wonder why."

And left-back Callum Kennedy said to the Advertiser about his first-team debut :

"It was great and I was just so excited to get my debut. Before the game I was feeling nerves, but they go the minute you get out there. When I got my first touch I thought 'yeah, I like this', and the game just got better and better. I definitely want more of it. I want to keep playing, keep working hard and keep learning. Just because I've had a good game doesn't mean I'm the finished article, and I know I've got loads to work on.

"I'm just really thankful to Budgie (David Byrne) for giving me my chance. You could say it was better because it gave me time to get my head wrapped around it, but sleep-wise it wasn't better. I was getting more and more nervous in the days leading up to the game and Friday night I was struggling. But I think it was more excitement than nerves to be honest.

"I was happy with my performance. Hasney (Aljofree) helped me a lot, talking me through the game, which you need. He's got the experience and knows where I need to be at all times to help him and vice-versa, so playing next to him helps a lot. And everyone's been the same.

"All the boys have been quality throughout the week, encouraging me and telling me I'm a good player. It's just a shame about the goal we let in at the end because I thought we defended pretty well as a back four, but we'll just have to crack on in training in the week ready for the game next weekend."
