United frontman Nahki Wells (NW) spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's James Phillips (JP) after Carlisle's 4-0 victory at home to Bristol Rovers, the Bermudan saying he had been looking forward to getting on the pitch as a late substitute :
JP
Welcome to Carlisle, what did it feel like to get your debut under your belt today?
NW
It was a blessing, it was my first game, got a few minutes on my debut game. I was looking forward to it when it was just a case of the gaffer (Greg Abbott) saying it was my time. So, I was ready for it, I came on, I believe I didn't get in too much action, we were just concentrating on the game and trying to keep a clean sheet. But, it was definitely a good feeling to come on in front of the home fans and get a good run-out and a good game.
JP
And having made it onto the bench today, as the goals were starting to go in towards the end of the game did you get the feeling that this might be your moment?
NW
Yeah, yeah, as the goals went in, especially when the fourth one went in and I was warming up, I was definitely sure that I was going to get a run then, it was a good time for me to come on and get a few minutes at the end.
JP
And you have signed a deal with Carlisle until the end of the season, a five month deal, what has the manager said that he expects from you in that period? What does he want you to do?
NW
He explained to me that it is going to take a while to get into the groove and to establish myself among the other players. But, he just wants me to come here, work hard in every session and get used to the professional environment, which I am enjoying, and slowly work hard and get into the team and become a good asset for the team.
JP
And your avenue to Carlisle United, the things that have brought you here, are different from a lot of signings Carlisle will make. You have come from Bermuda but you are over here studying as well as playing professional football, am I right with that?
NW
Well, no, actually I am not studying at the moment, I was previous to this from September to December in the last semester. But, I was over in Leeds studying in the Academy but I got the option to come up and I was definitely happy to take the option to come up to Carlisle.
JP
And what have you made of your team-mates here at Carlisle United? Are they different from what you have been used to?
NW
Yeah, it is a bit different, but everyone has done well with me and been good to me and have been encouraging me in every session to progress and become a better player.
JP
All of us English have been watching The Ashes, which if you don't know is a cricket tournament between England and Australia, and we are all sat here in the gloomy English winter watching all of our cricketers over there down under enjoying the sunshine in Australia. It must be a bit like you coming from Bermuda to a place like Carlisle to ply your trade?
NW
Yeah, yeah, well, Bermuda has good weather but then it has its bad times, so I am a little bit used to the rainy weather. But, it is a bit different waking up every morning and not seeing the sun for a long time. But, it is something I expected, I am in the far north of England and it is something that always happens. But, it is something I will have to deal with and so far the weather hasn't been too bad for me to handle, but I am enjoying it.
JP
And just on yourself finally, in terms of what you want to achieve here, I suppose you just want to earn a longer deal in your time with Carlisle United, that is your first port of call?
NW
Yeah, that is definitely my first goal, trying to earn a longer deal and establish myself and get into the ranks as a good player at the club. It is going to take a few weeks for me to fully settle but I am sure I can.
