United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria on Friday evening as he gave his thoughts on the game at Gillingham tomorrow. McDonald commenting on Leeds-loanee Jermaine Beckford and Kendal teenager Jon Forbes :

" There is a different way of doing everything for away trips, when we are on the coach people watch DVDs, they watch SKY because we have SKY on the coach, some play cards and some read so there is a difference with everyone really. They sit wherever they can, I don't think anybody sits in the same place all the time and says ‘this is my seat' though.

" It's never nice to lose a few games on the trot and we've got back to winning ways, our aim now is to try and go another eight games unbeaten. The players think they can do that, I think they can do that and we're looking forward to the game against Gillingham tomorrow very, very much. A win tomorrow would get rid of that gremlin away from home I suppose, it would take the pressure off to an extent of not having to win our home games, although we still want to win our home games obviously as we have the best home record in the division.

" We want him (Jon Forbes from Kendal) to come up, we're just trying to get him off college because I believe he goes to college. We're just trying to get him a few days off so he can train with the first-team, we can then have a look at him and see what he is like. I haven't actually seen him and I wasn't sure of whether or not he played in the pre-season game against us, but he's got everybody watching him, we'll try and get him up with the first-team for a few days and see how he handles training.

"We have got our scouts all the way through from the Premiership to the Non-League though and we're trying to further our net. We'll then know where all the decent players are, the young lads coming through, the seasoned professionals and obviously the professionals who can't get in the team at the moment.

" Transfer news is ongoing at the moment and has been all week, we're trying to make contact with managers to see if anybody is available. We're just waiting for a phone call to come back I suppose and that is the boring thing that I keep on saying, that it is ongoing. On Jermaine Beckford what I'll probably have to do is to speak to Dennis (Wise) sometime next week as his loan deal is up after the Rotherham game. I'll have to see if he might want Jermaine to come back so he can take a look at all his players, we'll take that as it comes.

" Karl Hawley is still out and hasn't travelled, he's very close but on the medical side we want to make sure that with a game we think is going to be quite physical that he gets an extra week. If he gets a bang next week, if he is lucky enough to get back in the team, then that won't put him back to square one, whereas if he takes a whack this week then that will put him back another six weeks. So, we weren't really willing to take that chance, although he was very close to travelling and being involved tomorrow. "
