Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Paul Newton on Friday evening as he gave his thoughts on the recent wins against Nottingham Forest and Doncaster. McDonald also commenting about the situation with Chester City and Derek Holmes :

" We've had a couple of decent victories over the season but they are definitely the most high profile games that we have won on the trot. The boys are in good spirits, as victories always do, these two games were very, very high profile for me, Nottingham Forest the biggest club, and then to win away at the Keepmoat – the first time a league team has won at the Keepmoat was excellent. It puts everybody on a high and we're just hoping that the weather is OK with the pitch tomorrow and that the game will go ahead because we're really looking forward to it.

" It was a great goal from Jeff Smith, even Karl (Hawley's) was good as well. We were standing right behind Karl's and as soon as it left his foot we knew it was in the back of the net so that was great. We haven't been shooting from a distance but we've been trying to work on different aspects of our game altogether to try and improve, and hopefully we'll see a few shots like that go in the back of the net.

" We're in daily contact with the training but they (Karl Hawley and Peter Murphy) are just getting their heads down and working very hard for the team, and they are both playing very well. We'll see how it develops as the season progresses. I don't think there is any need to worry I suppose, if they are going to say yes then they'll say yes, if they are going to say no then we have to make sure that we have a replacement. Luckily we have got them until the end of the season now, so we'll just see how it goes until the end of the season.

" We seem to have been winning a few games but never really moving anywhere, the gap is little bit closer now though. The game at Yeovil was my first defeat as Carlisle manager at the start of the season, so we have to get them back a little bit tomorrow if we possibly can. It's always nice to play well but at this stage of the season it's all about results, we've done that over the last two games and I think that we've played really well for the last two games, we're just trying to keep that going.

" I think the club is going in the right direction, tenth and two promotions on the back of the last two seasons and trying to strengthen the squad. I think the crowds tell you that they are enjoying the football because the crowds are up. I think in truth we can only be criticised for our away form really because we haven't picked up enough points away from home. The home form has been excellent so we take it on the chin, we're trying to do better than the first half of the season and I think we've done that so far by the couple of wins that we've had already at the turn of the year.

" Somebody will get a chance tomorrow definitely because he (Paul Thirlwell) can't play with his suspension, he's a big miss because he was in fine form. They (Chester) inquired about Derek Holmes before the deadline finished, I'm slightly disappointed in Chester that they have hung their washing out in the open. That was a private conversation that we had, I spoke to Derek and he knows all about it, he's still very much in our plans at the moment and until that changes he'll stay with us. "
