Blues manager Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Tuesday afternoon as he talked about the 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Saturday and what he thought Carlisle needed to do in the last nine games of the season in their quest for a play-off place :

" I've watched the video and we played extremely well, limited them to a fair few chances and when they did take their chances it was poor defending on our behalf. We really got at them, played some decent football and created some decent chances as well which we didn't put away. It was a very frustrating day because I thought we deserved to get something out of the game. I thought he (Luke Joyce) played really well, he was driving on and I only really took him off to give Shaun Vipond four minutes from time a taster really. That was a, not a wasted substitution, but an experience for the young lad to play and he did nothing wrong, so he (Joyce) is in strong contention to start now.

" Taking chances has been a problem of course, that's probably why we are in tenth position. We have to try and get that better either by improving the players that we have got or by trying to bring somebody else in to improve that, but that is an ongoing process. We've been scouting all season and it has been difficult to try to bring players in, we've slowly and surely done it and I think that the players that we have brought in have strengthened the team 100%.

" We had no new injuries on Saturday so we are pleased with that and everyone seems to be coming along quite nicely on the injury front. It looks as though we will have Derek (Holmes) and Neale (McDermott) training today and they will probably play for the reserves tomorrow. Then we'll see how Danny (Graham) progresses, it is improving but it is a slow process, especially with it being very deep in his calf. We've got our fingers crossed and we're very hopeful that the treatment they (Karl Hawley, Simon Hackney and Paul Murray) are receiving, and the programme that they are on, might get them back before the end of the season. It'll be a huge bonus if we do.

" The frustrating thing this season is that I think we could have done a little bit better, especially with some performances where we haven't got anything out of them. At the same time though I think we're still in a strong position, we've got two home games coming up and if we can win those two then it puts us back in the frame. Two defeats in eight is decent enough, I know there have been a few draws in that but two defeats in eight tells us that we're in good form. If we can just finish things off, be a bit more clinical and put the ball in the back of the net then we'll win more games.

" With nine to go we've set a target of nine wins, I think you have to do that because if you don't then I think you are foolish, so we've set a target of nine wins. It is close because even the ones at the bottom are scrapping for points, and they seem to be picking up points. In the top teams - they might not be being beaten but they are drawing, so if we can get on a little bit of a winning run then that will put us back into it. It's an exciting finish to the season which I'm not so sure many people would have expected that, especially with us coming up another league after two promotions on the trot. We've given ourselves a chance though and if we can just put the ball in the back of the net when we are really on top of teams and finish them off then it will finish the season off fantastically well. "
