Neil McDonald
United boss Neil McDonald spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday evening as he gave his opinion on the 2-1 reverse at the Galpharm Stadium. McDonald talking about the need to play well for a full 90 minutes :

" We're being taught a harsh lesson at the moment, if we make a wrong decision on a pass it seems to just go in the back of the net. We've been punished clinically by not really making them work hard to try and score against us and that has cost us the game. I'm trying to think of a word for Jekyll and Hyde I suppose, wrong decisions in the first-half gave the opposition a goal and we gave ourselves too much of a mountain to climb back.

" I haven't seen the penalty again yet, for me it was ball-to-hand as far as I'm concerned but there were a lot of strange decisions in the game. You have to put up with it though and there is no point in moaning about it I suppose because we led to our downfall to a certain extent in the first-half. We've hit the bar again but you can't just play well for 45 minutes in the second-half and that is the most disappointing thing, if we play like that in the first-half then we'll win more games than we lose.

" I'm not making excuses but this is what happens when you go up a level, if you do make even half a mistake then it is sometimes in the back of the net and we're being taught a harsh lesson at the moment. I'll go downstairs after I've finished with all the media and the press and I'll have a drink with him (Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson) like I do with every single manager that I play against.

" We're creating chances and it's certainly not for the want of trying that we can't score, we put the ball in the box, we get people in the box, we do a lot of stuff on the training ground to try and score goals and create goals. Hopefully the tide will turn soon rather than later. Taking Chris Lumsdon off was just tactical to try and throw another forward on, I think it gave us a little bit more umph upfront, Glenn (Murray) contributed but unfortunately he couldn't score, and Derek (Holmes) couldn't score when he came on either.

" He (Peter Murphy) practices free-kicks and it's a shame because I think on the second-half performance we probably deserved a draw. I'm not kidding myself though to think that we have played well for 45 minutes, we have to play well for 90 minutes to get something out of the game. That's a harsh lesson that I have to learn and get over and get through, and the players have to do the same. "
