New boy Paul Thirlwell
United debutant Paul Thirlwell spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Saturday afternoon as he gave his opinion on the 1-1 draw at home to Northampton Town. Thirwell commenting on the excellent atmosphere in and around Brunton Park :

" I enjoyed it, it was a good 40 or so minutes and a good run-out, unfortunately we didn't win the game but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think, especially when you come to a new club, you want to be out there but the lads have been doing ever so well and rightfully so the team is the same as last week. I was just waiting for an opportunity and thankfully that came in the second-half, and we got a good result in the end.

" Just as I came on we scored but I'm sure that wasn't the only reason. It was good though, it was just nice to get out there and start playing with the lads as you can talk about it all day long off the pitch but until you actually get out there and start playing then that is what you found out what the team is all about. The lads are genuinely disappointed and that just goes to show how far the club has come, this season I don't think anyone would have expected us to be fifth at this stage. I know it's early on but the lads have started ever so well, and every team they play by all accounts has certainly not out-shined us by any stretch.

" If we can just keep going and keep playing football, there are going to be indifferent results at times, but if we keep doing the same things every week then we will win more than we lose. The gaffer (Neil McDonald) said that we didn't really deserve to go one down, there wasn't anything in the game, but to come back and get a good spell of pressure and a goal was good. We could have gone on to win it, but on another day we could have lost it, on another day we could have won it, but it's just one of those things.

" It's a very good atmosphere, it's nice to see a couple of terraces still, it's been a while since I've seen them but it does seem to generate a good atmosphere. The fans seem well up for it, everyone is enthusiastic, everyone is positive and long may it continue. I'm fine, although I'm sure I'll be as stiff as board with not having a lot of football, I think it's probably a bit sad after only 40 minutes but I should be fine and in the squad for Tuesday. "
