"That's five on the spin we've won now, so we're pleased with that. It was an entertaining game for the supporters and we've just beaten a very good Carlisle United side. Credit to Joe Murphy, he pulled off some fantastic saves to make us go in 0-0 at half-time.
"It was a hot humid day today but we turned it round in the second half. We did look for Wooly (Martyn Woolford) to be an impact player and that's exactly what happened. It's the players on the field of play that make the difference. They've got to work hard all the time.
"They dug deep and saw the game out, because we played an excellent Carlisle side. It was a good victory for us. I thought we looked a little bit exposed in the first half. There were a few balls that were going through us. I thought it was the right time, with Izzy (Iriekpen's) experience, to introduce him.
"That's what it's all about - having a squad of players and a bench you can turn to if you need to go and change it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. We came away with the right scoreline. Cleveland (Taylor) came back to haunt us a little bit to send that cross in for their goal. It made the last 15 minutes competitive, but exciting for the supporters and that's what it's all about.
"I'm trying to get the lads to get a bit of a tempo going, but both sides didn't really put passes together. We nullified each other a little bit. Maybe that was the tension of the game, we have to take that into consideration. Both teams wanted to win it, but make sure they didn't lose it. I thought we were off the pace by half a yard in the first half. But in the second half we deservedly went into a 2-0 lead and we're pleased with that."
Meanwhile Matt Sparrow, who scored Scunthorpe's opening goal, commented to the official Iron website :
"When Woolly and I came on I thought we did ok and for myself it was a huge boost to score a goal. The ball went wide to Woolly, he managed to get a cross in that Paul Hayes flicked on and it just dropped to me. I just had to get my head on the ball and I was delighted when it dropped into the net.
"I've felt quite sharp the last couple of weeks but the gaffer has told me to be patient. I know we have a big squad but everyone just wants to play. Hopefully I've given him something to think about next week and hopefully he might start me. I think a few fans want to see the old Matt Sparrow back from two years ago. I want to get back to that level and I need to put in a few more consistent performances."
"I don't mind where I play, as long as I am in the team. The key for me now this season is keeping clear of injuries - and suspensions as well. I need to cut out some of the rash tackles that have got me into trouble before. I am 26 now and as I get older I am getting more experienced."
