Shrews boss Paul Simpson spoke to the official Town website about his side's 1-0 Carling Cup first round defeat at home to Carlisle tonight, Simpson suggesting that the Shrews just didn't take their chances in the game :

"It's a disappointing first round exit for us but we knew it was going to be tough as they are a good footballing side. They make it hard to play against because of the way they sit in and defend very strongly.

"I thought we had opportunities tonight, we've had three or four good ones where we've hit the bar, hit the post and with a little better finishing we may have got something out of it. It was a quality free kick from (Peter) Murphy, not sure whether it was a free-kick in the first place but the ref gave it and they've put it in the back of the net.

"Graham Coughlan looks to have quite a bad hamstring and the early indications are that it maybe two or three weeks but we will see how it goes. The Doc (Robert Wilson) and Nathan (Ring) have had a look at it and we will get it scanned in the morning and have a better idea on it then. It's a blow to lose Graham but I think Kelvin (Langmead) came in and did very well and maybe the opportunity might come for him now.

"I think we showed them a little bit too much respect at the start of the game and we allowed them to pass the ball around a little bit too easily. 20 minutes into the game we decided that we are a decent side and can pass the ball around well, we then created opportunities but in the end it didn't go for us today. Tonight wasn't to be, we've just got to forget it and get on with the next game.

"I won't take as many positives from today as I did from the game on Saturday, we looked a little bit lacking at times. We did get into some good areas but didn't quite produce the right ball or the right pass, we didn't test the keeper as much as I would have liked to but they are a good side."
