United midfielder Paul Thirlwell spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria's Derek Lacey on Friday morning ahead of Carlisle's away game at Gillingham tomorrow, Thirlwell though not involved in the match due to his ongoing ankle injury :

" I'll be stepping it up this week, trying to get into jogging and stuff, so I'll just crack on from there with Dolly (Neil Dalton) and progress it when we go. Hopefully in a couple of weeks time I should be just about there. It's been a bit of a nightmare year, it's frustrating but you've just got to get on with it I think. There have been a few downs this year where you have just got to bounce back and thankfully I'm coming out the other end nearly now again.

" The lads have been fantastic all year, it makes it easier when you are watching football, which is a nightmare anyway, it makes it a lot easier when the team is winning and we are flying high, so it's been good. For a while it looked like obviously we needed to get going away from home, but over the last, I think the win at Forest has kicked us on away from home. We seem to be just playing really well generally whether we are home or away now.

" It was my ankle, it's feeling better every day, it's a just case of seeing what work you can do each day and what you can get through, and just building it up over the next couple of weeks so that I'm ready. It didn't look good at first but thankfully it seems to be healing quite well, it would be nice to be back before the end of the season and obviously get involved, even if it's just training with the lads.

" Obviously I am around them every day, we still have the crack and all that, but then they go outside and we're stuck inside. Even now at least I'm outside running and stuff so I can even watch a bit of training. You've got to start with the usual boring stuff, straight lines and the more confident you get the more sharp turns and quicker running you can do. So we're still at the early stage, but it's just a day-by-day thing, you can't pinpoint dates, it might be later or it might be earlier, but a rough guide should hopefully be two weeks. "
