Sheffield United manager David Weir spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield after his side's 1-0 League One defeat against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Weir finding a lot of questions to answer:
“Disappointed, frustrated, really questioning a lot of things, questioning ourselves, so just very disappointed. We have just been trying to get to the root of the problem with them in the dressing room, trying to see what the thoughts are of the players on it. Obviously, what is said in there will stay in there, and we will try to be as honest with each other as we can and try to get to a position whereby we are improving. But, at the minute it is very, very hard and it is difficult and it is really hurting all of us.
“I think the message about how we want to play is getting through but we are not getting the end results from it. Obviously, we are conceding goals and we are not scoring enough goals, so fundamentally there is a big, big problem there and ultimately that is my responsibility. The message that I put across to the players and how they perform on the pitch is my responsibility, so I don’t think it is the players’ fault.
“We were very close again, you get sick of saying the same things, we are not creating enough chances, scoring enough goals and we are conceding too many goals, so it is a really bad habit. It is a bad balance to have whereby you are not doing as well as you would like to be doing at either end. It is a big, big problem and there are a lot of questions to be answered. It is early in the season and it is week in and week out now for the last three or four weeks we have had the same questions, we are asking ourselves the same questions and we are not coming up with any answers.
“So, that is a big challenge for us, it is a low, it is a real low and we are disappointed. But, when you get lows like this you can either disappear and back down or you can stand up and you can face it, and I am the type of person who will stand up and face it and have a go. I will question myself first and foremost and look at what we do and look at if we can do anything better. There have always got to be changes because we are in an industry whereby you have got to win football games."
“That is the nature of being in it, I have been in the game a long time and I know that is what you are judged on. I have got ideas in regard to how we can do that and I think they are the best way to do that, I think that I have a genuine idea over a period of time of how to be successful but I will question myself and I will look at ways in which we can find a way to win the game. Because, football is all about winning football games, and me as a coach, I want to be a winning coach.
“What I say to the players and what they say to me will remain private, the dressing room is a sacred place as to what goes on and how it is spoken, I don’t think I should be publically speaking about that. But, all I can say is that we have asked each other a lot of questions and we are trying to get to the bottom of why we are not being successful, because whatever way you dress it up we are not being successful. So, that is the bottom line and that is what we will be judged on, and it is a real, real low for us, we can’t get away from that.
“It is about winning football games and we are not doing that so I am worried, I am questioning myself, I am questioning everything to be honest. It is a low point and it is disappointing but the answer isn’t walking away or closing your eyes and hoping it doesn’t happen. The answer is trying to look for answers and that is the way I would rather approach it, I would rather look for answers than feel that disappointment.
“We are going to have another difficult week again after a few difficult weeks, we are going to question ourselves, we are going to be in a lot of pain this week and I am sure the supporters will be in the same way. I am sure they will be feeling the same way as us and they will be disappointed and they will be questioning a lot of things. I have genuinely got sympathy for them for that because we want to be successful there and we are trying to do the things that will make us successful, but at the minute it is not working.”
