Reaction From Colchester Boss Joe Dunne

U's manager Joe Dunne spoke to BBC Radio Essex after his side's 2-0 League One win over Carlisle at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, Dunne saying it was a good learning game for the home side:

"I am obviously happy we have got three points, I thought it was a really good learning game today for us in terms of us having to adapt to what another team did, not only once but maybe twice. Overall we scored great goals, we could have scored some more great goals, but there are one or two things that I have explained to the players that we need to better at. But, we take the win, I am not going to complain about winning, that is for sure.

"The essence of what we have been trying to get here is talking about a bit of a backbone. I felt that today, I have just said to the players there, if we want to have a passing game we will have a passing game, if we want to go toe to toe then my players have got to be able to stand up and take that. If it means grinding out results we will do that as long as we get positives.

"The period when we scored the two goals was one where you just sit down and watch it take place, it really did feel like that. The players were just in the zone, they were flowing and the movement, the passing and the flicks and the tricks. It is amazing because although the crowd were amazing, they were really behind us, and then it kind of went quiet in the second-half because, hang on, we are supposed to be passing it like we were in the first-half.

"But, really pleased for everybody today because I thought after 20 minutes when we got hold of the game we could have had two or three more goals. The awareness of Sanchez Watt as well for the goals, his game intelligence, which is what we have spoken about, the quality. The two guys (Watt and Craig Eastmond) have combined and as they said, it was 1-0 to the Arsenal, but it was actually Colchester United today, so I am pleased with the build-up play and the way we took the goal.

"It was a great finish from Jabo Ibehre for his goal as well getting in the box, and we have done a lot of work with our attacking side of the play. There were two or three other times when the goalkeeper (Mark Gillespie) I thought made two or three excellent saves. We are getting our attackers in there and having shots, so pleased."

"It comes to something when we go from not winning to winning and then people saying we are taking the foot of the gas when we are 2-0 up. But, that is what we have created and we have to be able to deal with that. I thought, without being disrespectful to Carlisle, we had to adapt to what they did in the first-half and when we changed it we got our goals. We changed their system three times which is a great credit to the players because I believe they can play in any shape or form as long as they pass and move.

"But, Carlisle were a threat and let's be honest, on another day they possibly could have had two or three goals in terms of free headers in the box, which I am bitterly, bitterly angry about, and I have let the players know that. So, as well as we are euphoric when we win we have to take something from the game, and we have to tighten up certainly in that area.

"Brian Wilson went off has he had a slight groin strain and he was feeling a bit tight, so we didn't take any chances with that. I am not quite sure about Sanchez Watt because he is with the doctor at the moment, but we are hoping it is just a bang on the knee. But, it stretches us, I think you guys said to me on Thursday about being stretched, well we could be stretched now.

"But, resilience is what we need and whoever comes in needs to do the job. If the chairman (Robbie Cowlin) let's me bring some players in, then I would probably do that. The thing is that financially it is so tight, if you look at it we need to assess these injuries quickly. I have got loads of targets I could bring in but it is easier said than done because you need to free up some money, and the chairman has helped me out with the three loanees already, so he has done fantastic for me but we need to address it and maybe have a look at it over the next 24 hours.

"We have got Leyton Orient away now, a massive game, I have seen them play Hartlepool myself last Tuesday night. They are a good side who like to play, a big pitch, London game, under the lights, all that sort of thing, so we are going to go there and attack them as well because that is what we do."

Meanwhile Craig Eastmond commented to BBC Radio Essex on his first senior goal today:

"It feels amazing even though it was just a little tap-in, but a goal is a goal really and it started the trend for us to get another one, so it was very exciting. Sanchez Watt showed so much skill there, he was excellent and all he had to do was cross the ball and I was just there for the tap-in, so I give him all the congratulations. He is a quality finisher but I obviously shouted too loud for him and he thought he would pass it to me for my first goal.

"We always knew Carlisle would start quick but we kept our game going and we changed our formation and they couldn't handle us, and we just killed them. The second one was good skill from Sanchez Watt again, he drove it hard across the box and Jabo Ibehre was just there to finish it, exactly as I did. The gaffer (Joe Dunne) expects us to play like that and that suits me better because that is the way Arsenal play.

"The fans probably think it is best playing that way because they don't want to watch boring football. You want to win and win in a better way than just kicking it long, and that is the best thing. At half-time it was only halfway there, you never know what can happen, they could bring substitutes on and do even better or we could drop our heads. But, we just kept on going, kept our heads up and we saw it through."
