Rovers manager Brian Flynn spoke to his club's official website after his side's 2-0 League One defeat against Carlisle at the Keepmoat Stadium, Flynn saying United got a foothold in the game after Doncaster's good early start:
“We weren’t as good as we have been in the last two games, that is for certain. I thought we started the game really strongly and it looked as if we were carrying on from the weekend. But, gradually Carlisle got a foothold in the game, they had loads of energy, lots of mobility and they stopped us playing.
“All credit to them, that is what they did, a deflected free-kick, we were obviously unfortunate in that circumstance and then they get a breakaway late on in the game which made it look a worse defeat than it was. We had chances though, we hit the woodwork a couple of times, Rob Jones has had a big chance towards the end. But, it is one of those off-nights that you have, unexpectedly to be fair after the previous two games, but it is not the end of the world, far from it.
“I wouldn’t put it down to nerves today, I didn’t witness that. The players will regroup and then we will look at it on Thursday. The next 24 hours for them physically is going to be important because they have to recover, and they will recover, they are good at that. By Thursday we will have looked at things all day on Wednesday and then look towards Crewe. This is finished now, and I think I am told we are in exactly the same position as we were before the game, so nothing has changed, we are still top of the league.
“Over the last couple of days after the recent performances and results I kept hearing people say that we will go up when we are at home to Notts County. We haven’t done it yet and I don’t agree with those people, yes it is nice to look forward to something but you can’t assume you are going to get it. You have got to work hard for it and the boys have worked hard for it, they won’t let it slip, the character in the squad will come out again and it will be shown at Crewe on Saturday.
“That will be a very important game, there are only three games left now, but that is one game less for our opponents to get points. I think the team that has benefitted tonight is the one that hasn’t played and that is Bournemouth strangely enough. But, tomorrow night I will be at Crewe watching the Brentford game so we move on from there.”
