Simon GraysonTown manager Simon Grayson spoke to BBC Radio Leeds after his side's 2-1 League defeat against Carlisle at Brunton Park, Grayson saying that the Terriers could have been dead and buried in the game by half-time :

"It hurts to lose so late because we had an opportunity to get something out of the game which we probably didn't deserve. Based on the first-half performance we could have been dead and buried, they had most of the play, our retention of the ball was poor, our work-rate was poor, they were the dominant team. We said at half-time that there are defining moments in a season that you can get away with certain situations, and we had done at half-time.

"We were lucky to be 0-0 and we had a great opportunity to go and be better in the second-half because we could have done a lot better in the first-half. In the second-half we had an opportunity to put that right but five minutes into the second-half a player switches off, lets another player run past him and suddenly we are 1-0 down.

"We got back into the game obviously and fought and scrapped, but all-round we were a contrasting team to what we did well last week, and that was passing the ball because we passed it very poorly today. We didn't work as hard as we should do and that is frustrating because you see a team that played so well last week and it was a contrasting performance today.

"I think when you look at their winning goal the back four have pushed out, he (Lee Miller) is probably still onside and Alex (Smithies) has probably got to come and wipe everything out. I don't think he managed to leave the ground and get a punch to it, the lad obviously headed it over him. So, it is a disappointing goal to give away, a soft goal to give away, and at that stage you think you would take 1-1.

"I thought when we scored we looked like the dominant team who were going to go and win it. We thought we could run them into the ground and we could get the breaks, obviously we just hit the post before they got the winner with Alan Lee. But, over the course of the game we probably didn't deserve to get anything because we didn't play well enough."

"I'm not sure why we didn't reach the intensity of last week, they are questions you have to ask. Players' preparation, players' determination, attitude, whatever. They are a good group, they are an honest group and they have only lost what, four games in 50-odd so they have obviously got a lot of good qualities. It is a tough place though, this is a tough place to come to, because the crowd are quite vocal and they are a good team. But, obviously we know as individuals and collectively as a team we have to do better.

"Today we were just off the pace, they (Carlisle) had a game on Tuesday night, we should have been the dominant team and been winning more second balls, passing the ball better. That was probably the biggest thing that we didn't pass the ball better and we didn't retain it. The front two (Lee Novak and Jordan Rhodes) never kept hold of it well enough, the midfield never passed it well enough and that doesn't give yourselves the opportunity to get up the pitch and squeeze the play, which is what we did very well last week.

"I don't mind where the two wide players (Gary Roberts and Danny Ward) go, they can play on the right or the left because obviously they are both left-footed. There were many factors in changing things but again it was a factor that we didn't pass the ball, our best players who can handle the ball were poor in that respect today and we never got going.

"We had too many long balls down their centre-halves who are good in the air. I thought Alan Lee when he came on was more of a physical presence and got us going with his determination and workrate. But, it is hugely disappointing today because we wanted to build off last week's performance and result and obviously today is a setback.

"There is still plenty to play for, we have got to bounce back ready for Tuesday night now. We will keep going to the very end, there are still many results that can happen for us and against us. We have just got to try to win our game in hand on Tuesday night and then see where it takes us this time next week after the game against Sheffield Wednesday.

"I think when you have looked at the team over the course of the season they have always responded, they have always sort of come back from defeats and results and we have got to do. We have got to come back with a real positive response from the players, they know that they have not done as well as they can do today, but it is a great opportunity to put it right on Tuesday night."
