Valiants manager Micky Adams spoke to BBC Radio Stoke after his side's 2-1 League One win at home to Carlisle, Adams disappointed that Vale went in at half-time 1-0 down:
“It certainly wasn’t comfortable, disappointed with what we produced in the first-half, having said that we probably had a couple of great chances to have scored, but didn’t. Disappointed to come in at 1-0 down, a cheap free-kick we gave away and Tom Pope got done at the back stick, so disappointed in that. Sat them down at half-time and whilst people will probably ask what I said to them at half-time, I think I told them exactly what they knew and what they thought, that we needed to pick the tempo of the game up.
“Nobody is more disappointed than I am with the events of probably the last six, seven or eight games. But, I can understand, I thought we had had a great first half to the season and we really should have built on it. We could have done that two ways, with the squad that we have got or bring other people into the squad. That has not happened so we get down on ourselves and lose a little bit of confidence and belief in ourselves.
“The hard part is trying to pick them up, hopefully that today will have boosted everybody’s confidence, will have given them a real bit of belief in themselves. We have got a massive test on Tuesday, I think with the greatest respect to Carlisle, that Leyton Orient will be slightly better in terms of quality and we are going to have to produce a real performance on Tuesday.
“We need to get to 52 points as quickly as we can, I think the results have gone for us today, I think we are 11 points off the bottom four. That is a good gap and we personally feel inside the football club that we should be looking up rather than down. Our fans have been disappointed with us recently, I can understand that as well.
“Somebody will probably be linked with my job again tomorrow morning, but all I can say is that we will be trying our best to put as many points on the board as we can between now and the end of the season. I have had this since I first came into the job. I was at Fulham when Mohamed Al-Fayed came in and every manger under the sun was being linked with my job, including Kevin Keegan who I might say actually got it.
“So, I take it all with a pinch of salt, it didn’t spoil my Sunday, it is chip paper isn’t it at the end of the day. I think everybody knows my personal situation at this football club and the speculation will continue. Now, I think I have done a decent job here, I let other people really decide that but it will need a good manager to take over from me. I believe.”
