Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to his club's official website and the Express & Star after his side's 2-1 League One defeat against Carlisle at the Banks's Stadium, Smith understandably disappointed to lose the game in stoppage time:

"It was disappointing, I didn't think we did enough to win the game and I thought it was going to end up another 1-1 against Carlisle as we have done the previous two games with them. But, a number of errors and it ended up with them scoring the winning goal, and really it was too open in the second-half because I didn't think we had played well enough to be that open.

"In the last 15 minutes we were disorganised, which we haven't been, and that is the disappointing thing for me. It is young players though, and we have asked them questions before and we are expecting answers from young players early in the season. But, we have got to make sure that we keep our feet on the floor, and certainly that result will do that.

"George Bowerman will be disappointed that he didn't finish his chance late on in the first-half but that happens in games. They have hit the post late on and had one flash across the goal before they scored, so there were chances at both ends and I think probably a fair score would have been a draw. But, unfortunately for us they got the goal, and they looked a little bit fresher than we did.

“There will be a lot of people waiting for this to happen and saying they could see it coming. I couldn’t and we can respond. After the Bournemouth game you could feel there was an expectation we should have won these games. But, it’s tough in this league and we’ve been putting in really good performances and getting points from them.

“We’ve lost two on the spin but it doesn’t detract from the type of football we want to play. It’s going to be a long way to get where we want to be but there are promising signs for a young squad. They will keep getting better, but there are lessons to be learned, I mean it looked a poor goal for the winner but we’ve still got to have bodies around there to deal with the second ball.

"We have always been grounded, I said that to the players, the expectations that other people put on the club and the team you can't help because they have done so well at the start. But, from us it was just take each game as it comes, we know it is a tough league and every game is tough that you play in. So, we expected no different than the games being as tough as they are.

"We have got 17 points from 11 games and to be honest this is the most disappointing performance really this season, and that includes the Doncaster game where I thought we were quite bright. Today I didn't think we were as bright as we can be and not as energetic on the ball as we have been. But, we will move on to the next game and it will be a tough game against Port Vale who have been doing really well, so we will look forward to that now."
