Reaction From Simmo To Today's Excellent Win At Wrexham

Player-manager Paul Simpson was more than happy with today's 1-0 win at Wrexham :

" It was a massive result today, we desperately wanted to bounce back after the disappointment of last week. There was good spirit, great battling and everyone wanted to work really hard for the victory which was great to see.

" Karl Hawley was different class today, but I felt for him a bit because he did everything but score, he’ll cause defences all sorts of problems if he plays like that for the rest of the season, I keep saying to him to get in there and the luck will turn for him.

" We knew Wrexham were a good footballing side and they play the ball around well, but we knew we could create opportunities by getting the ball into the channels and getting their centre-halves into places they didn’t want to go.

" I was disappointed with the defending last week but we’ve been working hard all week in training on it, I was critical of Taff (Anthony Williams) as well on Monday, I thought that he could have done better on a couple of the Barnet goals. It shows what a good pro he is though that he’s got his head down and got on with it and worked at the next game, it was an excellent save with his legs on the penalty.

" We were disappointed to go in level at half-time after we had a few good chances, but it was a hot day today and it was good to see the lads work so hard."

On his own game Simmo said :

" I was in two minds with the chance and took too long over it. That’s down to sharpness though , I haven’t a played a full game at this level for 90 minutes and that sharpness will come back in time. Peter Murphy reacted well to being left out today, but I wasn’t surprised at that because Peter has a good professional attitude."

Talking about the Coca-Cola cup tie on Tuesday Simmo’s opinion was :

" We’re respectful of Burnley and the competition but I won’t risk anyone just for the sake of it, the league is the priority and that has always been the case but a good cup run would give the club another lift and get some more money back to me for the transfer kitty.

" Paul Arnison took a knock on the foot and Kevin Gray turned his ankle a bit but everyone slotted in well today and did a very professional job after the disappointment of last Saturday.

" Every result is important but we wanted to turn it round quickly after last week and to be honest I would have been with a point before kick-off. I’m pleased with the start after the first four games and if we keep working like we did today we’ll be OK.

" It makes a big difference to the lads to come out of that tunnel and see such a great away following week after week getting behind us but we’re surprised anymore at the amount of fans that travel for the games."
