Swindon manager Mark Cooper spoke to BBC Radio Wiltshire after his side's 3-1 League One win over Carlisle at the County Ground, Cooper saying the Robins played some really good stuff in the game:
“I felt we totally dominated the first-half of the game and played some really good stuff. Carlisle came and got behind the ball and made it difficult for us, but we had to patient and we scored a really good goal. In the second-half they have to come out and try to have a go, they pressed and they got a goal. They stuck the ball in the box and we didn’t defend it well enough and we find ourselves at 1-1.
“We kicked on again though, little Alex Pritchard has scored another fantastic free-kick, I thought he was excellent today and then we sealed it at the end. But, on the whole I thought we played quite well. The timing of the second goal was vitally important to us though, vitally important that you get yourselves back in front as quick as you can. It took the pressure off us a little bit and then obviously Danny N’Guessan comes straight off the bench and scores, so it was nice to see that go in and game over.
“We spoke to Alex last week but he is a young lad and he is still coming to terms with senior football. They have ups and downs and I think it is important that you try to take him out of the team at the right time to give him a breather. Hopefully today he has had a couple of games rest away from home and hopefully today you have seen him bear the fruits of that rest.
“I think the fans have been patient with the players. I think you get, whatever stadium you go to you get a minority that whatever you are doing they want something different, which is fine. But, on the whole the fans have been completely understanding and sensible and we have rewarded them with quite a few victories at home.
“Nicky Ajose has got excellent work-rate upfront, he is the fittest player at the club, he always looks as though he is going to score a goal. He plays on the shoulder of defenders and we just thought today that with him playing on the shoulder and with five good footballers playing in midfield that we would keep the ball for us that we would create chances, and we did.
“The ball wasn’t in the air from us, it very rarely is, but we were just trying to get him on the shoulder and get him one v one with the goalkeeper, which he did right at the end and he was unlucky not to score. Danny N’Guessan then comes on and he gets the benefit from Nicky’s hard work today.
“With Carlisle 1-0 down they had to come out and have a go didn’t they. So, they got the ball, stuck a few balls in the box and apart from one we defended it. But, I always felt as though we were in control. Looking at today you would have to say the stuff behind the scenes hasn’t affected them, as a manager I can only control the things I can control and I can’t control what is going on there. So, I just try to control the things I can, which is how the team plays, what team is picked and look after the players as well as I can."
