Saddlers manager Dean Smith spoke to his club's official website and the Express & Star after Walsall's 3-0 win over Carlisle at Brunton Park, Smith saying his players could have scored more goals in the game:
"I'm really pleased, from start to finish the work-rate was phenomenal and we could have scored more. There were some great performances out there and we could have scored more in the end. I was pleased for Will Grigg as well; he'll take a lot of accolades for his hat-trick but this was a team effort where everyone played their part.
"We started well then they came into it a bit more as the first half went on, but I was pleased with us after the break. I expected them to come at us but we played higher up the pitch and we well in control. You start worrying when it’s 1-0 and think ‘are we going to get the killer second?’ but we managed to and it was really good finish from Will.
"This was a good win. I'm full of admiration for what Carlisle have done over the years; this is always a tough place to come and we have won convincingly. To be clapped off at the end by their supporters was a nice touch. It was fantastic. When I made the substitutions they gave them a reception and waited for the rest of the team to come off at the end.
“I’m really proud of the players anyway, the whole squad, and as funny as it sounds I was really pleased with the clean sheet. It’s nosebleed time isn’t it though? It’s a really good win but I haven’t got an assistant manager at the moment, so I haven’t got the time to think about the play-offs. We’ll take one game at a time, and we’ve got a big game against Shrewsbury on Saturday which we’ll look forward to."
