"It was backs to the wall at times. It was roasting out there and every one of them ran their socks off. We showed grit and determination and it was a magnificent result. I can't fault anybody, it was a tremendous effort from them all. Trying to pick out a man of the match is hard.
"We are looking more solid as a team than we did last season, particularly at the back. There's a bit more pressure on players than there was last season and that can have an influence on them. They are worried they might lose their place if they don't perform - and we did not have that situation last season.
"To lose (Calvin) Zola early on was a blow. We took a bit of a gamble with him and it didn't pay off, but his presence early on was there for all to see. We were prepared for Calvin to go at three-quarter pace. The ball you don't want is the one where he has to stretch out to run at pace onto it. He went down like a sniper had shot him. Hopefully it isn't going to be too bad.
"Jenno (Steve Jennings) has come into the side and been a revelation in midfield. We have given him a bit of freedom and he has shown some self belief. Jenno and Paul McLaren were quality in our midfield today.
"It was a great move and Craig (Curran's) pace got him in there. He is still learning but he got on the back post and he is good at that. It was a great ball in and a great finish. Our fans were terrific. They made a lot of noise and encouraged us throughout. It makes a lot of difference to the players when they get that kind of backing from their supporters.
"We invited them on a bit in the second half. We should have kept the ball better in the last ten minutes, but luckily we dealt with everything they threw into the box. Danny (Coyne) stayed and made the saves. He could have been involved in the Germany game tonight but he stayed and made some great saves in both halves."
