Bristol Rovers midfielder Lewis Haldane spoke to the Bristol Evening Post about the 1-1 draw against Carlisle at Brunton Park on Saturday, Haldane also talking about the bizarre incident that saw him receive a yellow card from referee Clive Oliver :

"The referee saw I was wearing different coloured cycling shorts - they were navy blue and my shorts were black. He'd told me to go off the pitch and take the cycling shorts off, which I did. The fourth official then told me to go back on, which I did.

"The ref then said he hadn't told me to come back on the pitch. I told him the fourth official had. He said 'Well, that's not me' ... and booked me. I thought it was a strange decision and hopefully it will be rescinded. It's the craziest booking I've ever had.

"The fourth official is supposed to check things like that before you come on as a substitute, but he didn't. There's hardly any difference between the colour of the cycling shorts and my shorts anyway. I offered to pull the cycling shorts up so they couldn't be seen, but the referee said I had to go off.

On the actual game itself the Rovers winger commented :

"I had a left-foot shot late on which bent wide at the last minute because I hit it with the outside of my boot. We had other chances as well and although Carlisle had a lot of pressure in the second half, we were disappointed not to get the win.

"In the end it's a good point having lost in our previous game, but we are disappointed not to have taken all three. But if we can win our next two home games, then we can be right up there."

Meanwhile Gas boss Paul Trollope spoke about Haldane's booking and the way the match went for his side :

"Lewis went back on the pitch when the fourth official told him to but the referee booked him, so I think there was a lack of communication between the officials. It was a frustrating incident.

"It felt like a defeat. There are a lot of disappointed people in our dressing room because we feel we had enough chances on the counter-attack in the second half to have won the game. There were a few arguments afterwards among some unhappy people and it shows the progress we're making that we've come to Carlisle and are not happy with a draw.

"They'd had a bit of pressure early in the game which we'd had to see out, but we were pleased to take a 1-0 lead into the break and I thought we were worthy of it. They pegged us back in the second half but didn't really create any clear-cut openings to speak of because we defended resiliently, which we needed to do in spells.

"They got a goal back but then we grew back into the game and created some good counter-attacks - we had probably four chances late in the game which by our standards were good ones. On another day we'd win the game, but we just lacked that bit of quality to finish those chances off. The result's not the end of the world and we'll take the point and move on to two home games now.

"We'll be looking for a good points return from those two. We've had too many draws for our liking, but we're OK in the league and there were a lot of positives to take from the game. We've had a decent return from away games although we're still to record a win at home - not through a lack of performance, but we do need to be more ruthless to make sure we get the points we deserve."
