Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen spoke to the official Saddlers website and the Express and Star after his side's 2-1 win at home to Carlisle this afternoon, Mullen extolling the virtues of Walsall strike-partners Michael Ricketts and Jabo Ibehre :

"We earned the right to win today. I can't ask any more from my players, but we are not getting too carried away. We are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment and I was delighted with the backing that we got from the supporters.

"The team has been fantastic for me, we needed to show the same sort of commitment at home that we have been doing on our travels and we certainly did that today. It was a good three points for us and now we can't wait for the next game to come around.

"I thought the goal had to come, the way we were playing and the fact we were bombarding their goal with shots, crosses and pressure meant something had to give. My only concern was that we might leave the back door open at the other end because they were dangerous on the break.

"Dwayne's goal took the sting out of the whole game. It was a great goal, great ball in and a great finish which gave everyone a bit of confidence and gave us an opportunity to go and win the game.

"Clayton Ince saved the penalty but he gave it away because he made the mistake of being unsure whether to deal with the ball. He went, he stopped, he went, stopped and hesitated and allowed them get in there. The linesman made the decision for the referee and we have to stand by it but it was all because of an indecisive decision in the first place but it was a great save.

"That gave us the incentive to say 'come on then.' It could have put us behind and given us a mountain to climb. His hamstring problem didn't give him a problem, mobility wise, but it stopped him kicking the ball so I told him to throw it. He can throw it three quarters of the pitch anyway.

"This is why I pick Michael Ricketts and Jabo Ibehre and that is why I coach them in the manner I do. Between them they cause an awful threat to the opposition no matter who they are. What we have to be mindful of is that the rest of the team have to be in support, and quickly.

"If we are going to cause problems up front we have to have people in support and pick up the pieces they create. Ibehre has got to calm down a little bit but if we take that away from him, maybe I am taking something away from the player and we might have to live with it.

"The crowd were fantastic and I love it for the players and the club. When they are chanting for the players and the manager it means we are doing something right. It is a good environment to play football in and long may it continue. The way the team played meant they earned the right to win the game."
