" I’ve got be honest, it was a tremendous performance with good attitude from everybody and we got it because we worked hard, closed them down and passed the ball properly.
" The two wide players got past the full-backs and got crosses in. The strikers wanted to score, everything that you talk about for the whole of season so far that we wanted, we had it today. It was worth waiting for, it’s been a frustrating time with the lack of goals that we’ve scored, so it was really pleasing to get the goals today.
" I’m delighted for Karl (Hawley) to get a hat-trick and Derek Holmes got a couple, so all-in-all it’s been a good day but we’ve got to continue like that.
" The two wingers got to the by-line and put some quality crosses in and that’s what we want from them. We’ve been asking that of them for weeks and weeks, it’s not something that we’ve suddenly just decided going into today’s game that we wanted it. We’ve been demanding that of them.
" Today it’s gone for us, we’ve had things going our way and it was a good day all-round for us. A great result and a massive confidence booster for everybody and hopefully we can take that into Cheltenham.
" The injury to Zigor Aranalde was obviously a late disruption. I had an idea in my mind on Thursday that David Beherall wasn’t going to be fit and Paul Arnison was going to come in. Zigor getting injured in training was obviously a setback for us but I thought when we started the game with Simon Grand out there that he looked really comfortable in that position.
" It changed the game Grandy going off and having to bring Danny Livesey on. It was unfortunate for Grandy but that’s life, that happens and Danny has been waiting patiently for his chance to get back into the side. I have to say I thought Danny looked a different person in his performance he put in today to how he looked in his last few games before I left him out of the side.
" In the close season it was in my mind that Peter Murphy was going to play left-back for us, I didn’t expect to get somebody of the calibre of Zigor into the club and I thought Murph could play in that position.
" I played Simon Grand at left-back today because I didn’t really want to disrupt the two central defenders who I think have been very comfortable over the last few games. I wanted to keep it the same as I possibly could but things get thrown at you and Danny had to come into it for Grandy and Murph slotted across there.
" When he does things right, when he passes the ball properly and he doesn’t try his tricks in the wrong areas then Murph is a tremendous player. I’ve said this all along, he gets criticised by the majority of the supporters but ability wise and fitness wise he is as good as anybody in this club. It’s getting him just to have a clear head about exactly what we want from him and what he is going to do for the team.
" There is a long way between now and next Saturday, I think the first thing we’ve got to do is enjoy this. It’s a long time since we’ve put six past anybody and it’s a long time since we’ve looked like putting six past anybody as well.
" We’re going to enjoy this, we’ll worry about the Cheltenham game when we get back in on Monday morning. My preparations will obviously start when I get home and I’ll start thinking about it but it’s not a bad problem to have is it – winning 6-0 at home and a couple of players possibly coming back so I’ll look forward to the team selection problem.
" I want to extend the loan spell of Alan O’Brien. The problem that we’ve got is that he has a groin problem which he’s had this week and he hasn’t trained. I spoke to him yesterday and he is sore with it, we think that he’s going to need an operation but it’s whether or not he’s going to need an operation straight away or whether it can wait a week or a month – we just don’t know.
" I’m going to have a chat with Alan again, I’ll speak to Tommy Craig (reserve team manager) over at Newcastle. They’ll have to get their medical people to have a look at it and we’ll take it from there. I think he’s a dangerous player to have with us, even if he doesn’t start games, if he’s on the bench. He’s a hell of a weapon to throw on there with his turn of pace so I’d like to extend it but we’ll see what happens this week.
" I don’t know if the goals from the strikers today have answered the critics, it’ll change again. We’ve shown today that Karl Hawley can get goals and that throws him up the goalscoring charts. He’s got himself into good areas, Derek Holmes has been in and around, I thought his second goal was a hell of a finish so it’s given us a nice problem. It doesn’t change anything though, we’re still looking around for the right player but this week it's not as urgent when you have got two players upfront who are scoring like that.
" I think you’ve got to be relaxed and you’ve got to be confident for next Saturday after the way we have performed today. We did it well in the first half because we closed down and we worked and we put them under pressure. The big pleasing thing was that we didn’t just rest on it in the second half, we carried on pushing forward and we got the reward with the two goals at the end.
" All-in-all they can take a hell of a lot of positives from it and take a lot of confidence. We move on to Cheltenham who have had a disappointing result at home today and we’ll go there to have a right good go to get ourselves through to the next round of the Cup. "
