United stopper Keiren Westwood spoke exclusively to BBC Radio Cumbria this evening as he gave his thoughts on today's disappointing result at home to Bristol Rovers :
" I thought we started really well, I thought we came out of the blocks sharp and I don’t really know what happened. We can’t really explain what’s happening at the minute, we need a little bit of luck I think.
" Like their goals today, their first and second, own goals that nine times out of ten just don’t go in. It’s just that’s what it is at the minute for us.
On the first goal :
" It’s come across and I’ve tried to get there. I was going to catch it to start off with and I sort of slipped so I ended up punching it, punching it too well and it’s hit Danny (Livesey) in his stomach. Like I say nine times out of ten if the ball hits you in the stomach it just drops, it doesn’t bounce off you and go in.
" We obviously don’t try and lose but it’s not down to lack of effort. At the minute I think it could be a confidence thing. I’m not really sure what the problem is to be honest. It’s just one of those things at the minute, everything we seem to do is going against us, like the second goal. "
On the third goal :
" I got caught in the end. I tried to push up, trying to keep a high line, trying to get things going because we were obviously going for the equaliser and I got caught and it’s one of those things.
" We’ve got a good squad, we’ve got a good team spirit, it seems like people seem to hear that we are always saying that but it’s true, we’re not lying about it, we are a close knit-team.
" We’re after a dodgy goal like they scored there, the own goals, we’re after something like that just to kick-start us.
On the second-half collapse :
" I know we got off to such a great start and I don’t what to come on here and slag the boys off. We desperately want to do well and we know the fans get frustrated and we do as well, we share it collectively, we all muck in and we don’t want to lose. The fans rightly booed us today after the second-half performance. "
